So far the stories I've liked 3 Little Words--it kept me guessing right up until the end. Damage Control was also good--if a little heartbreaking. I'm not a huge mystery reader, so I'm enjoying these little bite sized pieces of the genre.
I didn't finish Serial Benefactor--it just didn't grab me so I moved on.

Well, that first story was kind of surprising!

Since this is a book of short stories, don't feel like you need to read every single one of them, just whatever catches your fancy is fine!

I think my favorite chapter was the one about the way they use humor to cope with horrible stuff. It's interesting how that works, but I can see it being extremely disturbing to patients and their families if they overhear some dark jokes about themselves or their loved ones.
I really liked the story of Lara's turnaround and being able to overcome her addiction.
It's really great that the end the author offered suggestions on how these horrible situations can be improved, rather than just telling us, "Wow, this is bad."

Since December is a busy month for most of us, I went with books that are short and a few collections of Short Stories. Vote in the poll!

My husband used to be a children's mental health nurse, and before that was a nurse in a couple of different drug rehab places. He has some stories, but nothing like the ones in the book. He was frequently asked to do things he thought compromised his license, and refusing to do unethical things made him unpopular with some supervisors.

An Oklahoma nurse is mentioned in the chapter about sexual misconduct with patients... (p82)
This is really an eye opening book, and it's making me very glad I didn't go into the medical field. I guess every profession has its crazies, but wow there are some horrible stories here.
So, nurses are routinely attacked on the job and expected not to make a fuss about it, but a doctor gets attacked and is given an award. Wow.
Are any of you nurses? I'm very curious for an insiders point of view.

What I've read so far is pretty shocking. I just passed the part about the one nurse who had a drug problem and left a port thing in her foot all day so she could dose herself easier! And the abusive doctors, wow!

Glad you liked it! I haven't actually started it yet, but I'm off all next week, so I plan on reading it then.

No, the murders were seen in black and white flashbacks from Libby's point of view, and didn't show a lot of detail.

Whoops! Yeah, I wouldn't read a book like this more than once.

It's a tie between Nurses and Astronaut Wives Club--whichever one is in the lead by the end of the day will be the winner! Go to the poll and choose what you want to read if you haven't yet.

Metropolitan Library System just got the movie in, by the way.

Not yet, the poll is open until tomorrow. There's a 3 way tie at the moment, so anyone who hasn't needs to vote!

Glad you liked it! Yeah, Ben was very clueless. I think he was terrified of Diondra and couldn't believe what was happening right in front of him. I think at that age, people just don't realize how serious of consequences their actions can have.

Wow, that sounds really good, but unfortunately there are only 7 copies in the Metro Library System, not enough for us. But I found another book that's sort of similar.

Amanda, I still want to see the movie because I like Charlize Theron. But I hope the movie leaves some of the gore to the imagination. So I guess you didn't like it?
Brittnie, I've read a couple of her other books and I think this is the best one. (Also I can't help but think there's something wrong with her to make up such crazy stories. I'm sure she's a lovely person but her books, eek!)
