139812 (( Im so sorry for my choppy replies and delays, I have a college paper due and I've been working on it a lot plus other activities, sorry for being so busy! ))

Hadley looked to the ground, it was all she could think to do. She didn't want them fighting over her or fighting at all. She was hesitant to drink the water, waiting to see if anything were to suddenly happen to Zeke. Her suggestion burned in her skull as she was very eager to suggest it. Before anyone could say anything else to continue the bickering, she spoke rather quietly, but as stern as she could muster, "I have an idea."

139812 Hadley's heart pumped hard and fast. Fear circuited through her body as she took quite steps. She wanted to get it over with, to find water if it existed and leave. She hated the anticipation. She feared a spying tribute could appear at any moment to bring Hadley to her fate's demise. Chills ran up and down her spine, fright pulsing in her ears. Any curiosity of the town had vanished and all she wanted to do was leave. She stuck close to Zeke, but far enough that he had room to maneuver himself if someone were to attack.

The town was old looking, as if not finished. The buildings were bare walls made of cracked concrete. However, it sparked an idea. It couldn't be day forever, and a building would serve better shelter than desert floor. After finding water, she planned to suggest they find a suitable place to reside for the coming night.

139812 Hadley smiled up at Zeke, as if to say thank you for not wanting to leave her behind. She wanted to grab his hand, just to hold it as she did John. Giddy feelings bubbled in her chest, eager to finally having a drink and a chance to rest.

Her excited feelings were washed away by the sound of a canon, followed by a loud shriek. It reminded her of her fear, and she hid behind Ezekiel.

139812 Hadley was a bit startled by Zeke's request for her opinion. She was never asked for her thoughts, but rather was told what to do. That was what she was doing, waiting for a decision to be made and directions to be given. She hadn't even had thought of her opinion. She looked up to Ezekiel, unsure if she was comfortable with his half-naked body so close to her, and thought. "Well," she paused to clear her throat, "well, I see both sides. Both reasonable. If just the two of you were to go into the town, you wouldn't have to look after me. You both appear to have skills of self-defense. However," she lowered her voice involuntarily, as she was ashamed of what she was about to say, "I, I um, I don't really want to be left alone..." She looked to the ground, hiding her face. She wondered what Zeke would think, or what Caritta would think. She glanced up at Caritta, looking for her approval. Then her eyes made their way to Zeke, expecting an expression of annoyance or disappointment in her cowardice. Aside from not wanting to be left alone, she was a bit curious of what was in the town. She was eager to venture the walls of the town, exploring for water. But the strikes of heat remind her that she is not an explorer or adventurer. She must act maturely and rationally. "But, If I go with you, I might slow you down if we run into other tributes." She looked to Zeke when she spoke, noticing a splash of color near his shoulder. Questions bubbled in her mind, but she ignored them; they had other things to worry about.

139812 Hadley listened to all they said, but she didn't say anything back. She decided she wanted them to do the talking and planning. She would do what she was told and when she was told to do it. When Caritta suggested only two go into the town, Hadley's heart jumped. She knew what Caritta meant, and felt awful. Hadley was bringing the group down, if it weren't for her, they could simply protect each other and not have to worry about looking after a child. Ezekiel and Caritta going alone meant Hadley would have to stay by herself. But she nodded, agreeing with the plan, although she didn't have such say in the decision either.

139812 (( Thats Okay! ))

Hadley's heart sprung to life just as Zeke did. Fear bolted through her, unprepared for such a spasmodic response. She dropped his feet to the ground, gasped and jumped back. She let him react, and watched half-heartedly. She didn't want to, but she almost pitied him. He looked as if he had just risen from the dead, confused and unaware of who he was. It hurt to look at him for some reason. She wanted to speak up, to tell him he was okay and that they were okay. But no words exited her mouth.

She hadn't recalled where is knife was, and wondered if Caritta had picked it up. His words pierced her heart. He sounded hurt, and not himself. She wanted to get him water, she wanted to hug him, she wanted to be back home, she wanted all these things, but only froze before her dazed ally. She bit the inside of her lip, trying not to cry. I just want to go home...

139812 Hadley did as she was instructed without protest. She held Zeke's ankles and shut her eyes tight. She heard a canon, and fear shot through her chest. She worried she could be next. She peeked open her eyes to examine Caritta's face for signs of alarm, and Zeke's face for any signal that he was coming back to life.

139812 Hadley somewhat frantically ran. She hadn't mad it a couple feet when she saw Caritta carrying Zeke. Some sense was snapped into her and she stopped. She calmed down. She closed her eyes in an exhale and waited. "Sorry..." she whispered under her breath. Her heart was still pumping hard, and small shocks of panic pulsed every so often. She walked beside Caritta, wanting to help but didn't know how. She couldn't go into the town by herself. She wanted to say something, anything, to apologize to Caritta or Zeke to explain why she ran, she just wanted to help, and she felt rather foolish. Her cheeks reddened but it wasn't visible due to the preexisting redness caused by the heat. Thirst pinched her throat. She needed water, and hoped there was a source in the town. For her, and Zeke. Hadley took a quick glance around the arena to see if anyone was following. The Cornucopia wasn't visible from where they were, but a tiny figure shone in the distance. A chill of fear shook her spine.

139812 Hadley sent a shriek through the echoey arena. Zeke had fallen at her side, and laid on the ground. She panicked. His initial fall was startling enough, but then the thoughts started flooding in almost instantly. Her eyes shot around the arena but nothing was there except dirt dust and the small town not to far away now. She looked to Caritta, dumbfounded and at a loss for words. Think Hadley, think... She brought three fingers to her forehead as if to bring new ideas to her mind while her feet fidgeted and urged for movement. But other tributes could hurt or kill her, she couldnt trust them without Zeke. Then she remembered Caritta, she could take this opportunity to kill her without Zeke's protection. Fear pulsed through her body. All of this within seconds after he fell, she pushed it away from her mind. Her main objective now was to save Ezekiel. She could never know how to solve the problem if she didn't know what caused it. Dehydration? Heat Exhaustion? Maybe even both. She recalled pieces of what she had learned in school in years past. If heat exhaustion, remove tight clothing, remove from heat, and push fluids. Since two of those three things were out of the question, she remembered what Zeke had said. There might be water in the town. "Please don't hurt him!" She screeched to Caritta, taking off for the town in search of water, alone.

139812 Hadley didn't reply to him, but only nodded. She wondered why it wouldn't be safe, she thought If there is shelter and possibly water, why would it not be safe? But she knew better than to disregard what Ezekiel told her. So she listened, and followed what he did. She didn't know much about medicines or health, but Zeke didn't look like he had in the cool training center. She wanted him to feel better, but unfortunately didn't have a bag of ice to give him now.

139812 Hadley was comforted by his quick squeeze of the hand. If Zeke trusted Caritta enough to let her hang around, then so did she. She enjoyed Zeke's company and hoped he enjoyed hers. Hadley followed Caritta's direction of point and noticed a clump of buildings in the distance. And though she hadn't thought of it before, there had to be water somewhere in the arena, and if it were going to be anywhere surely it would be there. The heat blazed at her skin, but she almost didn't notice except for the sudden bursts of humidity every couple moments. A bead of sweat dribbled down her neck, but Hadley wanted to remain positive. She was okay. Zeke was okay. It was all alright, they would find water, she was sure of it.

Zeke's uneasiness all of a sudden worried Hadley. Though it was barely noticeable, he seemed to be analyzing Caritta. Hadley reminded herself that she was safe as long as she was with Zeke. "Shall we go to the town? Or isn't it safe?" She said as Zeke peered at the cluster of buildings quizzically. She didn't want to be a bother, but was curious either way.

139812 Hadley was wary of Zeke's knife. She hadn't noticed it before, until he had it prominent. She disliked that the new girl refused to announce her name to Hadley upon shaking her hand. She looked down, nervous that the girl would hurt her.

A chill shook its way down her spine as Zeke's threatening voice echoed through the arena. She peered up at him with innocent eyes as he spoke to the unfamiliar tribute, and she was tempted to giggle when he finished. He was threatening the girl if she touched her. Someone who had a weapon and was a much greater ally than Hadley. She let a small giggle slip, then instantaneously regretted it. She wasn't trying to be cocky, she just liked the feeling of protection that Zeke gave her.

After offering his hand, Hadley took it. Her hand was small and fragile in his, reminding her of his strength. Pressure pushed at her temples, but she promised herself she wouldn't faint again. She wanted to say something to Zeke, as if to show him that she was thankful for what he did, and to thank him for caring about her. She contemplated her words, and took a quick glance over her shoulder to see if the girl was choosing to follow. Turning forward once more, she spoke nimbly, but not meaning to sound so frail.

"Thank you very very much for what you have done for me Ezekiel. It is very kind and brave of you." Hadley said, beaming an appreciative smile. She had picked out her words rather strategically, not wanting him to sound either weak or recessive. Because he was not, he was upon the bravest that she knew. He was willing to protect Hadley, even if no one else would, and for that she was extremely grateful.

139812 Hadley smiled to herself at Zeke's protectiveness. He acted liked John had back home. She missed home, and wanted to go back. She thought about John and how much she urned for him. She was only drawn back to reality by Zeke's calming voice, but what he said wasn't very settling. He didn't even know this girl, and yet, she was with him. She became nervous, as if she were being watched. After hearing the new tribute speak, Hadley wasn't sure if she wanted to befriend her. She seemed unclear of what she wanted, or what she was going to do. Her uncertainly worried Hadley, but if Zeke was okay with the new girl, so was Hadley. She nodded at Zeke, then looked to the new girl. "Hello, I'm Hadley." she said, rather quiet, holding out her hand for the new girl to shake. Hadley wanted to be hind to her, regardless of their situation. It could just save her life. With the news of a rewarded kill, Hadley didn't know if she could trust anyone but Zeke.

139812 Hadley's eyes were wide when Zeke thrust her into his embrace. She couldnt wrap her arms around him, and felt slightly uncomfortable against his bare torso. But he cared about her, and she knew it now. Hadley felt safer then ever with Zeke's arms around her. "Yes, I'm alive, I'm okay..." and now she was sure of it. She was okay. She had Zeke now. He let go, and they both stood up. Almost immediately after, a voice shot through the arena. She jumped at the booming voice. Her eyes darted around her surroundings, as if to find the source of the voice, but it seemed to be coming out of thin air. The message scared her. She was one of the youngest in the arena, surely an easy kill. Especially for something as valuable to the tributes as water. Hadley looked down, wondering if Zeke would let something bad happen to her.

Looking up once more, her eyes landed on a girl. She didn't know who she was, or if she had ever seen her before. Involuntarily, she stepped behind Zeke. "Who's that?" she whispered, sounding more innocent than she wanted.

139812 A canon woke her from her sleep, but she hadn't moved. She was exhausted from a sleepless night before the arena, and from her non-stop running. She heard someone screaming, but she was barely awake. Her mouth felt dry. She swallowed. She hadn't even opened her eyes yet. Hadley laid on her side, only her head covered by the shade of a small shrub. The screams became closer. What were they saying? Who was it? A small bubble on worry grew in her chest, but she was too tired to get up just yet.

WHO IS TOUCHING ME?

Her eyes shot open and her body flew up with a sudden pulse of adrenaline. Her eyes were on someone, but they hadn't adjusted to the brightness and were still blurry from sleep. She stared, with a half terrified, half concentrated expression. Hadley's hands shook in the other's. Then her eyes focussed. It was Zeke. Oh God, it was Zeke. Her fear subsided, but her heart still beat in her ears. Relief replaced the worry in her chest. "I'm okay..." she huffed, only half audible. Only, she didn't know if she truly was okay, she wasn't hurt or injured, but she was petrified.

139812 Hadley had finally gotten a ways from the cornucopia. Her travel had been a mix of sprinting, jogging, and walking, pacing herself. Fatigue grew in her joints, but the fear of someone following her or wanting to kill her remained in dominance. By now, her adrenaline was replaced with a drowsy panic. Her feet sunk into the ground with each heavy step. Her breathing heavy, from both excessive movement and the constant anxiety of being killed. She looked over her shoulder one last time, and no body. she couldn't even see the cornucopia. After one final step, her eyes rolled back in her head and she collapsed on the hot desert sand. Even though she shouldn't have, she cried.
