139735 Nice! I've become more aware of Grant and who he was while reading this book and participating in the buddy read. He's definitely what I will think about when looking back at this book!

139735 I knew it was something that started with J!

I first wanted to draw or paint Kerry, but realized I didn't have the energy to do so for a book I didn't particularly enjoy. Looking forward to seeing your creative posts 😉

139735 Here is for my creative post. I decided to do some very unserious suspect sheets, as I remember too little about the details to actually make them accurate 😅

139735 Would the Book Bridge Buddy Reads we are doing this month in the Book Quest Challenge count as tier 3 buddy reads or just buddy reads with friends?

Here is the link to mine.

139735 Yayyy! Me too
Jul 22, 2025 03:32AM

139735 I finished.

Overall, it was interesting to read about how the wealthy elites regarded the working-class mountain people, and also read about Madison Grant's horrible ideals and how he influenced other people. Other than that, I found reading the book was a chore, as it was written kind of messy. I wasn't invested in the characters, because there were too many of them. Too much to remember about everyone.
Jul 21, 2025 02:33PM

139735 Aah sorry! I realise now this book sounds horrible when reading through these comments 😂 It’s not thaaat bad, really. Just have to get through the first part of it and then it gets better
Jul 21, 2025 12:26PM

139735 Yeaah I’m reading right now (currently at chapter 32, 63% through), and I think this will get 2.5 stars from me, unless it suddenly gets way better, which I don’t think is very probable

139735 Through Chapter 29

I agree, Bernadette. The writing is better and I'm less confused, BUT I still find it hard sometimes to remember every detail about everyone. When a certain perspective comes back after many chapters, I find myself forgetting where we'd left off.

I feel the same. It gets better when you get past the first third of the book, though personally I still find it a little bit hard to read.
