BookSirens (37 new)

I've never had them tell me this. I have been working with BookSirens for more than a year (they are fabulous!) and have had some books that were not for me. As such, the reviews were 1 or
2 stars. I was not asked to take my reviews down or refrain from publishing them. They just give you a "review publishing is optional" if it is 3 stars or less.
I assume the review in question had some harsh critiques judging by that comment (from Hope) above and this was why it was asked to be removed. Less to do with the 2 stars and more to do with the way the 2 stars was discussed.
129784 My reviews are always honest, whether positive or negative. I do try to make sure that the criticism is constructive so the author or other readers understand why I didn't like it. That's what reviews are for right? To find out what other people think of the books.
I don't usually post negative reviews on my Instagram, but everything goes on my Goodreads.
I post on Amazon if I bought it, got it from NetGalley, or was asked to post there by the author when approached about reviewing.

129784 I just finished One of the good ones and it was sooo good!!!
How to get ARCs? (12 new)
Sep 29, 2020 03:27AM

129784 How long the reviews are is of no consequence. It's what's contained in your review and how many people read it (see Sarah's post above).
I do shorter reviews and have no issue getting approved for books on the regular.
I agree with Sarah in not requesting too many books at once. Start with just a few and get through them then accept more. Some publishers really do look at the 80% thing on NG, so try to start out there.

129784 Try resubmitting with DRC replacing eARC. I find ARC tends to get rejected more often than not.

Good to know, I have that coming up soon.

I have Legendborn & The Mexican Home Kitchen: Traditional Home-Style Recipes That Capture the Flavors and Memories of Mexico on the go right now. So far, both are fantastic!

Try resubmitting it and see if the same thing happens.
129784 No problemo :)
129784 When it's a book I just can't take anymore I leave a review with just that.
"Too much/not enough of ..." and that I had to DNF as a result.
Then you are leaving a review, but also letting them know you didn't finish it. That way it doesn't impact your numbers and they get something from ya.
Hope that helps :)
Wish for It (11 new)
Aug 14, 2020 07:05AM

129784 @Alison: You can totally request books you have already wished for so long as your wish has not already been granted.
129784 The only thing I will add to Sarah's info is that I was granted wishes the first month I was on NG (this was a few years a go now). I don't think being a newbie matters as much on wishes as it can on requests.
New! (6 new)
Jul 20, 2020 12:05AM

129784 Did you already sign up for a NetGalley account?
If so, congrats you are a reviewer!
When getting started, I would suggest doing a bunch of Read Now books since they don't require approval and help you get some reviews under your belt before making requests from publishers.
Helps you get data for them to look at.
Have fun!!!

129784 Hahahaha I did not even notice that. I got "new" comment notices and didn't even look at the original date. Wow.

129784 Yeah, same thing happened to me too a few weeks ago. Someone else had to tell me too. Glad I could return the favour :)

129784 I have noticed the last few weeks that the "older than 3 months" shelf says zero even though when I click on it I still have a book there...just not showing till I click on that shelf.
It still shows in my number of approved books on my profile, but not in the "current titles" count. Do you have any books on your "older than 3 months" shelf when you click on it?
Jul 02, 2020 12:16PM

129784 Yeah, I'm guessing it's a lack of activity coupled with your feedback ratio.
It's been almost a year since you posted on your blog and it's been several years since you posted a review on GR.
This with a feedback ratio under 80% is probably why.
I don't have a blog and have been approved by them.
My feedback ratio is always above 80% on NG and I post several reviews a month on GR.
Might be the perfect time post some reviews on your blog while getting caught up on your backlog on NG books to get your ratio up. :)
Hope that helps :)

129784 I would just shoot them a message and say Amazon won't allow you to post one.
I have usually spent well over the required amount every year lol

129784 You could save the URL's from the badges you earn in a word doc in case you can add them later. That's what I have been doing.
Apr 16, 2020 05:09AM

129784 Yeah, adding badges has been disabled for ages. :(
