128924 I finished last night, so I'll start the final section soon. I know not everyone is that far yet, though, but start in when you are!
128924 I agree
128924 Mr. Goodwitch has a number of good reviews, though the premise sounds a little odd to me. I would be fine with the Leslie Meier one as well--we've read at least one of hers here in the group, in the past.

128924 It was published in 1908. Still very contemporary, but also of its time in terms of some references to African-Americans, and perhaps the life of the moneyed, with servants.

I am moving along to the finish, but there will be a need to tie up a lot of things before that happens! I'm assuming MRR does this.

128924 I say let's just post to it when the spirit moves us!

128924 I am up for a fall-related one, but if this becomes problematic, perhaps we could look at the book that came in second in the voting for September?

128924 I'm not sure who all in on board and this far along, but I thought I'd continue our discussion. Join in when you get this far.

A lot of little things, seeming unrelated to me at this point, have been occurring. One serious one is the death of Thomas, who may or may not have held some sort of secret about the past (or the present, it's a secret, remember!)

I still don't understand the significance of the hole in the wall, what happened to the person who vanished just as Gertrude showed up with some slight injury, and why it is that the Armstrong suddenly wants Rachel to leave the house she is renting (is something hidden there?)

Jamieson is certainly involving Rachel way more than we are used to with our amateur detectives. Perhaps using her wold be a better description. Ah, well, better for the story.

I'm about 2/3 rds through and I'd like to finish up before I forget things. I should have made a list of characters in the beginning, to help me sort through the confusion.

128924 She is a very determined lady. Determined to find out who killed Arnold!
Sep 14, 2017 04:49AM

128924 I am through chapter 18 and I don't know yet, either!
Sep 13, 2017 07:25AM

128924 Yes, Tina, I HATE when that happens!
Sep 09, 2017 11:45AM

128924 I think Rachel is worried that her nephew and niece may be involved in some way, which is why she is reluctant. I guess if things came out too soon, there wouldn't be that much to the book!
Sep 08, 2017 07:19AM

128924 It is rather frustrating as the book goes along, that people are so reluctant to say anything about anything! I suppose that is why it is a page-turner.
Sep 08, 2017 07:18AM

128924 Nicole, first of all, I am in the same position with regard to the book being a page turner, and having to space out the reading! I'm already into our third part. I hope I don't give anything away.

We have an awesome library system here in the metro Pittsburgh area, so I will check out the DVDs you mention.

128924 I thought I would get us going on part two, in case any of you are there yet.

First of all, there was a question about whether the body of Arnold was found at the base of the circular staircase. I wasn't sure, but it is clear in this section that it was.

Second, when we left the last section, Halsey was missing and Aunt Ray was very worried. Well, we find out very soon into the section that he does in fact show up. While we find out some things, we really don't know what he was doing.

We find out a lot of other things, but the mystery (at least to me) still seems very obscure.

128924 Tina indicated that later in the weekend she may be impacted by the hurricane, so I will try to keep the discussion going.

I think its time to start the second part of our discussion, Chapters 8-15.

128924 I can get it here, but it comes with an expensive package that has very little else I want to watch. Too bad the movies don't show up on Netflix.
Sep 04, 2017 05:18AM

128924 Sadly, I don't get Hallmark Mysteries here.
128924 I think that is right about the staircases, Nicole, though I admit not to have followed that part too closely. I am ready to move to the next section, so as not to lose track of what is going on. The discussion doesn't need to start right away, though... I hate to leave a book for several days--I end up having to go back and check on things!
Sep 02, 2017 06:53AM

128924 I see you've started it already. I'll be sure to keep things going.
128924 Actually, I like Rachel. Liddy is very annoying.

Anyway, I think the book reads quite up-to-date given that it was published in 1908. And the story keeps moving nicely, so (at least so far) we don't get bored. And the murder/body comes up fairly early, and we have an interesting choice of possible culprits. I'm thinking Halsey is an unlikely choice, given his disappearance and just looking too guilty at this point.

I've just finished chapter 8 and things are now going to take a change!
