128924 I just got it as well. 70 pages in print form.
128924 This works for me. We can always speed up the discussion if everyone is ready.
128924 Sure. Will we do Maddie's first?
128924 I say Maddie's Thanksgiving. It is not in my library system, but only 99c on the Kindle. Like Nicole, I'm afraid Overkilt will be hard to find, and $13 on Kindle!
128924 Congrats!
128924 I guess I am neutral on all the recommendations. Just too many to decide--whatever you all agree on is fine with me.

Looking ahead to December, though, I saw this at the library, from Rhys Bowen, an author we've read before and liked:

Ghost of Christmas Past.

Just keep this in mind for Christmas!

128924 Happy Hallowe'en to all as well!
128924 I see Turkey Trot Murder by Leslie Meier in my library. Did we already read that one?
128924 It is her birthday; she is 93!
128924 Well, I finished the book and it is pretty satisfying, regarding solving the murder. Motive is plausible and the clues turned up well, after wonderful sleuthing by Jessica. And a nice "gather all the suspects together and reveal the murderer" ending.

What did you all think?

And what of the very end where we are left wondering about Matilda?

128924 I agree Paul especially seems a totally unlikable person. For a good reason or just to be a typical hot headed businessman?

Anyway, I am almost finished and will start the final discussion today or tomorrow.

128924 I'm nearly through this section and thought we'd better get going on part 2. Tremaine is acting so poorly, I doubt that he will be the murderer of Ms. Swift. The investigation is proceeding in these chapters and I am amazed by how much cooperation and access Jessica gets from the police. Not at all like so many of our cozy sleuths, frustrated and shut out by their police.

Somewhere in this section, we find that Ms. Swift was apparently looking into the death of Tony Scott. And also that, the day before her murder, she went to he safe deposit box and removed the entire contents, though we don't know what that was.

Also, Jessica reviews for us some of the suspects: Lucas Tremaine, of course, but Warren Wilson, Erica and/or Paul Marshall, Artie Sack, the "challenged" gardener, Robert Wandowski, whose daughter was found baking cookies with the victim, Jeremy Scott, Tony's son, just returning to Cabot Cove.

My money is on Jeremy, given that I still think Tony's death was an unresolved mystery (if he really is dead!)

128924 I'll start the second section soon. I'm at about chapter 10 myself.
128924 And getting stronger!

128924 I'm not liking the father of the girl who went to Ms. Swift's house to bake cookies. He seems quite a hothead.

128924 I am now just blocking out the names of the mayor, the fire chief, etc., figuring that will not impact the resolution of the murder (just one, so far).

That Tremaine guy is sure a character.
128924 Oh, Tina. I know you are in Florida, but not remembering where. Any effects from the hurricane?
128924 I am total up for the mystery weekend and will be happy to do as much of the cooking and baking as you'd like!

128924 Well, this is my first time through the book and only my second Jessica Fletcher book (Tina, the other one was a Thanksgiving one we read here in the parlor a few years ago.)

It does have a lot of possibilities given now, the murder of Ms. Swift, and then the presence of Tremaine on the spot (as they say in detective stories), as well.

Early on, Jessica mentions that the partner of Paul, who was working on the formula died in a fire "and was burnt beyond recognition" struck me as a clue that he might still be alive somewhere and that another body was identified as his.

In all fairness, I do have a habit of thinking of these sorts of things, trying to be more ingenious than the book usually is!
128924 NicoleG: I've made homemade applesauce a lot and it is always better than the jarred stuff. And so easy (if you can get past the peeling!) This year I threw in some strawberries into one batch, as a little mix-up. Delicious!

Also, I am going to dinner with some of my former bus-buddies (we rode to bus to work) tonight and they are coming back to my house for some of my "famous" apple pie. (I humbly think it is the best apple pie around!)
