121045 HERE COMES 2021...A YEAR OF FAVORITE AUTHORS
DATE: 12/01/20 - 11/30/21

We need something simple this year...something easy and simple. So let's do this.

Step One: Choose a level of participation:
Level One - Read one book per month (12 total)
Level Two - Read two books per month (24 total)
Level Three - Read three books per month (36 total)

Step Two: Choose a favorite author...or two...or three...or really however many authors you would like to work with over the course of this year-long challenge. If you want to read 12 books for this challenge, and you want to choose 12 different authors to do so, you are welcome to. Keep it as simple as you like, and just keep in mind your only requirement is to work with favorite authors.

You are welcome to read your books in any order. You don't necessarily need to work month by month.

Challenge Rules:
The page limit requirement is 125 pages unless otherwise specified; however, participants are welcome to combine smaller books to reach the page limit. All books are allowed (children's, manga, graphic novels, audio, ebook, etc). Re-reads are fine - just be sure to re-read the entire book.

Challenge Updates:
You are welcome to post updates while working your way through the challenge, but it is not required.

Completed Challenges:
When you have completed this challenge, copy and paste your entire challenge in a new message, indicating it is completed. A completed challenge must include: a link to the book title, the author's name, and the date you finished reading the book.

Notes on how to post book title and author links can be found here.
WRC's General Challenge Rules and Guidelines can be found here.

No, Ed...it is stated correctly, I believe. Let me explain further.

A book can only be used one time - so you can't use the book's title to cover a letter in the spell out option, and then turn around and use the same book again as a cover for a different item. You can use it either way, but you can't use the very same book both ways.

There are 20 items on the list (I've always had 20 I think), but it is not required to cover ALL twenty items in order to complete the challenge...only that you read 15 different books for the challenge (connecting them in one of the 5 different options listed).

Also, those who choose to do the spell option only would be hard pressed to spell out all twenty words/phrases in a three month period. It's much easier to cover all twenty using the title and/or the author...but they might not want to do that...they only want to do the spell option.

Some time back, the minimum required was changed from 20 to 15, after a couple of participants indicated they had a hard time completing 20 books in a 3 month period, and they asked if I would be willing to lower the minimum from 20 to 15. That is why the minimum changed...if it helps to know that.

Additionally, were a minimum NOT put in place, someone could sign up for the challenge, read one book covering one item on the list and call the challenge done. That is not a challenge :)

I apologize for the long explanation, but I'm trying to explain the process of creating the challenge, and in so doing, why the minimum requirement is put in place, and why the minimum is 15 instead of 20.

I hope this helps :)

121045 Hello Winter, 2020
Date: 12/01/20 - 02/28/21

wrc-hello-winter-2020

I cannot believe wintertime is almost here. I know some of you are already facing wintertime, so let's turn it into something fun.

Below is a list of some of the thing you might encounter during the winter months. The challenge is to complete as many as you can by the end date. There are five ways to complete and item, and these can be mixed/matched; however, you must read a minimum of 15 books in order to complete the challenge. A book may only be used one time.

Ways to complete an item:
(1) Title: The first letter of each title word found in the item; no word count limit, but all words count.

(2) Author: The author's first and last initials found in the item.

(3) Cover: The item is found on the cover. Please post the cover.

(4) Text: The item or phrase is found in the text of the book. Please provide page/location and sentence containing word/phrase. Word/phrase must be exact - no subsitutions.

(5) Spell: Spell out the item by using the first letter of the book title, OR the first letter of the author's first or last name. Please Note: these are the ONLY two options for the spell out.
