It could never be is how I first got acquainted with Lorena. I was gasping through much of the early chapters.
I hope one day a new company can get built up that can compete with Amazon and still boost independent authors, but not break our pocketbooks.

Author Iris LimIf you have KU, it would be best for the author if you read it through KU so the author can get compensated ☺️ But I also choose to put my books for free ever so often (I get nothing from the download) both to try catching the attention of new readers and to thank loyal readers for their support. Buying multiple books a month is not always a financial option for everyone, and I understand that completely.
Heather Moll AuthorSo reading it in KU will get them .004-ish cents per page you read. Which is not as much as buying it outright when it’s not free, but it’s better than nothing.

When an author sets up a free promotion on Amazon, we don’t get any royalties. We’re doing it for the promotion and to try to find new readers who will buy our other books
Here is one answer:S Neha Author
It is most probably the author who has put it for free for a certain duration. I believe if you read first and then buy it "for free" the author most probably would get KU compensation
No problem!I posted it and it will show up after being approved.
I will let you know what answers it gets.
Thank goodness it wasn't described, it is mentioned after the fact as it something that happened to her!
The worst one I ever read was, he either arranged for or abandoned her and she was found and was basically gang ra... and left for dead.Luckily for Lydia an older gentleman finds her and helps her recover which takes a while.
During which she develops feelings for him, but because of his children from a first marriage, they can't marry so he sets her up somewhere. If I recall correctly they do eventually marry? or he dies and he had left her a house and money to support herself respectfully.

I will admit to railing at some of the variations I have read in which women are used and abused by some of the secondary or 'evil' characters. It always makes me realizes afresh that in 200 years, so little has really changed. Even though as women, we do have it better than those of 200 years ago did, who were merely possessions of men.
I am Blessed to be able to have a job, earn my own salary, live in an abode I pay for (technically drive a car, I don't drive)...etc...

Very nice Sheila! great progress.
I received Outnumbered and have yet to read it. (Forgot all about it) Must add it to my list...
Wow, while it is true his behavior towards women, in the beginning of the book wasn't great, there were reasons and he learned to be better. Also, did she not get that most of the women wanted him ONLY for his money and status? They didn't care how he treated them as long as they had the large estate, money to spend and were the envy of all other women in th Ton.
