Yay! I'll be finishing it tomorrow. What did you think of it? I feel like it's gonna be a three star for me because it just feels a bit too long and there was very little(if any) character development which like what have the last 70 chapters been for... But it is so so funny in some parts so yeah.

1187621 Ok, wonderful! We will still aim for the end of the month then!

1187621 Hey! how is everyone coming along? Will you all be able to finish by the end of this month? or should we extend this into next month as well?

1187621 I did't really like the story of the man who was too curious for his own good but I am enjoying the story of the three brothers. Although I am confused because... what happened to Don Quixote? I want to hear more about him not random people's stories.

I'm currently on chapter 42 which is during the story of the three brothers. I'll probably finish Vol 1 today.

1187621 oh also chapter 27 made me think of princess bride with the marriages and women with daggers in their dresses.

Yes! poor Dorothea! She deserves so much better.

Also I anyone else also getting kinda Shakespeare vibes from some of the elements of this story?

Haha thats so cute, I was so confused on how to say his name at first as well and thats kind of embarrassing because I don't have to excuse of being a 6 year old child😂

Haha I hadn't even thought about it being dark! but yes! It must have been pretty dark.

I thought it was funny in chapter 20, Sancho is such a bad story teller😂

Also in the chapter with the criminals, the man says he was in love, but really he's just a thief that was so funny.

1187621 And I loved the part where they are judging his books as well! this quote "By reading these he will turn Shepherd, and wonder about the groves and meadows, piping and singing. Nay, what is worse perhaps turn poet which they say is an infectious and incurable distemper." is so funny! Making fun of poets and all.

I haven't read as far as you but just from what I have read I feel that maybe Cervantes is trying to make fun not so much of Don Quixote..."

Yes! I agree. Like honestly those original tales of knights and King Arthur and such are so ridiculous😂 And setting it in 17th century Spain where a knight is kinda(if not completely) out of context everyone notices how ridiculous he is, because knights truly were very irrational.

I feel like this book has inspired so many things because the whole tone/ mood and writing style of it reminds me so much of one of my favorite series(the squires tales) as well.

1187621 Hey guys! has anyone started it yet? I'm halfway through chapter 6 so far and let me say, I'm enjoying it so much.

I was a little hesitant because it's a bit older then my usual go tos as I read lots of 1860-1940s literature. But it's so comical and it's pretty easy to understand. Sometimes I read classics and they are way over my head and I have no idea what the author is saying. But so far this is a pretty relaxing read.

1187621 Also Dianna, if multiple people are having trouble reading this in one month we can absolutely allow for more time to read this. Because 50 pages a day is a lot.
May 04, 2022 06:53PM

1187621 oh yes, my translation is by Tobias Smollett.
