I'm not sure if he thinks he can't have one, or if he's sure it isn't Addam. There seems to be some mysterious implication that he might already know who it is.

I'm surviving on the idea that Rune cannot be anything but triumphant in the end. That, and I hope I live long enough for it to be finished :)

Can't wait to check out the renovated site. I would love to know if Josh's narration changed your inner vision of any of the characters. I was surprised how his interpretations gave some characters such a twist to my own imaginings.

I have to believe this is a huge bread crumb in the trail. It was so visceral. The hints are tiny, but they're accumulating. And if we look at where it has led Rune, you know they have to bring us a heart-stopping reveal. Nervous, but anxious to know.

You're going to be an amazing librarian. Public or private research? I know schools don't pay much, but what an asset you'd be.

Apparently, we are sharing a comment brain. What I find most uncomfortable is that Rune never speaks of it. Here is a man who, in exchange for some favors, took in Rune and Brand and continues to make sure there is food on the table even after the contract is closed. And yet, Rune seems to have never asked him what he knows. Is it because he fears the answer, already knows the answer, or is afraid to ask? I don't think I could be convinced it's because he hasn't thought to ask.

He is the ideal narrator. He nails the characters so perfectly that's it as if another actor has stepped onstage. What a talent!

As many times as I have read this, it never jumped out at me until now. Verrrry interesting, no?

1179622 The prologue impressed me. It reminds me of many great books where the narrator introduces themselves, tells you where you are and where you're going to go, and by the end of that short, efficient overview, you are champing at the bit to get the journey on its way. This one short passage was all it took to convince me to block out the weekend and devour it.

Exactly! In this one little exchange, we know what we're intended to think of these partygoers. That is amazing writing, the epitome of 'show don't tell.' I cannot tell you how many times I went back and read this and thought, okay, every little thing in this book is there for a purpose. Advance carefully!

Do you think that's exactly what we're meant to do? It's like maturing in Atlantean Years instead of Dog Years. Reversed, as it were.

I adore his complete disdain for the other attendees. By his estimation, they don't even deserve his best local diner manners. It sets the tone, tells us so much about someone we've only just met. Perfect, just perfect.

Rats! We had four--Frank, Sammy, Deano and Peter. I miss them.

1179622 Hello everyone! I'm so very excited to read along and hear everyone's ideas and questions. I was introduced to the books by a friend who told me "the characters are your kind of people. Don't let the fantasy part scare you." And it was perfectly true. Every new character was someone I wanted to know better, rather than just being support beams for the plot. I can't wait for the THT.

I'm originally from the east coast, went to school in NYC, and now reside in flyover country where I gave up teaching for healthcare. Love music of almost any genre and I guess I'm looking for a replacement for Spotify, so if anyone has suggestions, sing out!

My reading companion is a 15-year-old toothless rescue kitty named Trudy. I do a lot of rescue promo and support in my off-hours.

Looking forward to exploring everyone's perspective!
