Honestly, I didn't catch The Sunken Mall for a few months and about flipped my lid when I found it. It is so immersive and expands on New Atlantis. Not to mention the tiny clues I'm sure are hidden in the Mall's Courts.
A) K.D. is super-generous to have shared this with us. Thank you!
B) It enriches the series and universe tremendously. This was a professionally-edited novella and closer to minimum novel length.
C) It enriches our lives tremendously! :D
D) A paperback version would be amazing!
PS-- I was livid with GR when they took it down for a while. And it was maddening having to arguing with them as it was taken down/put back up multiple times for a few months.
Yes, yes!!The Principalities have SO MUCH potential. And considering how much time Ciaran is starting to spend with the gang, I think we're going to need to know more very soon. :D
The family that slays together, stays together.
Isn't that how the saying goes??

Who is she and will w..."You think the Empress has been hiding out as Queenie this whole time? Wow, that's an interesting thought!
Also, the whole thing was very elaborate and there were several males (all males?) there. It was a very planned, coordinated thing. Why? What purpose was it meant to serve? Was Rune supposed to survive or not? Agh!
Hannah wrote: "@F Lewis That's actually a secret fear I have, that Addam was there that night, even if it was a situation where he didn't have a choice or he himself doesn't remember for some reason."omg, this was never a wisp of a thought and now it's blowing my brain up! What if Addam wasn't under his own control and doesn't remember? We've seen these things happen or be alluded to in some degree a few times. Dark, guys, very dark...
On the bright side, wouldn't Quinn have some clues about this? If he hasn't shown any angst about it, I'm hoping this is not a thing.
Addam is a little hit or miss for me. His genuine care for Quinn and (I hope genuine care for) Rune is wonderful. But he also seems like a touch of an airhead, unless being prodded to pay attention. I'm not sure if he's full-on living on the Sun Estate or not. Can someone say? Anyway, if he does live there, maybe he'll get a bit more organized. *shrug*
Iza wrote: "Damn it I don't know how to reply here so @Hanna will have to work lol hi! I always thought Rune knows and I wondered if it was one of the attackers (he repeated said hate can be strong as love and..."I'm with you on this. It's a toss up between thinking he's too broken to have a talla, or he knows his is an enemy (masked). On the other hand, Addam seems really certain that something epically special happened when Addam kicked Rurik's ass in the clearing and got Rune out of the memory.
And I'm wondering-- is ONLY one talla possible?
I've read this book several times a year for a few years now. I have to admit that I never really understood the environment this chase takes place in. My picture was of them running through an outdoor park for some reason. So tell me if I have it right, now: They're in what is essentially a very old indoor mall type of environment. Like the underground malls in DC and London. Is that closer?PS-wish I could participate more, but my arthritis has been flaring. :(
@F Rune does have a couple of comments that make it seem like he KNOWS he can't have one. But what Rune thinks he knows and what is actually the case may not be the same thing. So...@Jay I think you're right about his mom, but also not sure where that comes up. But my questions were about where does her family fall in the court. There's Lord Sun but the Hanged Man was happy collecting kids from various courts. So there is court cross-over and probably marital (note, not martial :D ) alliances. That's where my wonderings were focused. I can't help but wonder what the relationship between Lord Tower and Lord Sun was. Also, what is the etiquette of addressing the spouse of an Arcana-- Lady Sun, Madame Saint John? lol
Hello!! So here a small number of my lingering questions:1. Was Rune an only child (other than Brand) before the Sun Throne's fall?
2. Since this subject may not come up again: The initial raid probably didn't include provisions for the bomb Lady Lovers set off. But the raid did knock people unconscious. So what happened to the servers & 'regular folks' at the Lovers Estate? Did most of them die? Did the entire estate blow up, or just the "science research" wing?
3. 'Tallas' seem to be somewhat rare. But is it possible for someone to have more than 1 talla? There's been mention of group marriage. Will we meet any of these groups? Do they have a name for it?
4. Will we learn anything about Rune's Mom? We don't really know much about either parent, but his Mom hasn't been mentioned at all so far.
@Ari How cool is that?! A group audio listen. Do you have to stop it frequently and ask each other "did you catch that? Hehehe" :D
Siavahda wrote: "...1) He was involved. I think this is least likely but it's on the table.
Agree completely with this. It's unlikely he was involved with the take down. Did he know there were plans for it beforehand? Maybe.
2) He discovered at least some of the perpetrators, but for some reason hasn't moved against them yet.
Seems most likely, given the Hanged Man situation. We don't know enough about the factions and alliances between the courts. We don't know that much about the older generation of Moral Certainties. There is a great deal of counter balancing between the courts, especially since the Human/Atlantean war. (view spoiler)
3) He wasn't involved and hasn't been able to find out what happened."
This seems unlikely because: Much of Lord Sun's wealth was confiscated by SOMEONE or many someones. Where are their sigils? The few Rune has now were in odd hiding places but otherwise the Sun's sigils have gone missing, right? Unlikely they're destroyed since there's currently no way to make new ones.
Hi Sam! What a great story you have! Librarians are heroes, though very underappreciated.
Green Creek Book 1 was beautiful prose & story. My MIL (a retired librarian) loved them!
I only got to know KD more directly in the last year or so. But he is all the things you said! His characters on the other hand have been in my brain since late 2018. They jumped right off the page and settled themselves in. :D
@Hannah This goes back to my deep hole of "who is Lord Tower to Rune and his family?" When did he get involved- involved with Rune's dad, Rune's mom, only after the fall? Also, what about Rune's mom? Who is she? Was she in Rune's life? Did she die before or during the fall? Really hoping for further background in THGT.The Empress is comparable to Elvis-- hilarious! Anyone read Fairy Tales of the Open Road series by Lex Chase. I get a whole little montage of visits to diners & tourist traps in the middle of nowhere.
Hannah wrote: "... Also, what was Lady Lovers going into that secret room for? I'm hopeful we'll find out what was so important that night, as well as why protecting Max had suddenly become a priority for her, since as far as we know she's still alive. ..." Yes, what was in that room?!
Also, my memory isn't great, but isn't she still alive in exile, or something? Maybe there will be a chance to ask her about Max?
