Here are my suggestions but I would like to see what your thoughts are, if you would like to read any of these or if you have other suggestions.
L.M. Montgomery's memoir of her childhood and her early years as a writer, originally published as a series of magazine articles in 1917. This is only a short book, 96 pages and I think it is a good introduction to Maud before picking up her journals, which I am considering reading with the group later in the year.
Kathy wrote: "Your thoughts are so clear and true, Tracey. I loved the book also. Montgomery writes about sad or troubling events but somehow there is always a positive feel to her books. Anne's spirit energizes..."Yes Anne desired friends as an orphan and carried this through her life seeking to make friends with everyone she met. I think Maud was very lonely and made her 'Anne' what she herself desired.
The grown-up Anne of Green Gables, her husband, and their six children live in a special hideaway known as Rainbow Valley.Anne is 41-43 in this one and the book mainly focuses on the children and their adventures.
Kathy wrote: "I’m looking forward to this too, Tracey. Anne and Gilbert with six children!!"How are you doing with the book? I haven't yet finished it but am enjoying it.
Katrina wrote: "I finished the book. Very nice! I enjoyed it."I am glad you enjoyed it. Will you be reading The Alpine Path: The Story of My Career? I just picked it up from the library and it is only a short book, 96 pages and looks good.
Katrina wrote: "I have read about half the book this month. I am really enjoying it and plan to finish it as soon as I can. Lovely photos and descriptions."I agree Katrina. I have just finished the book and here is my review. I gave it 5 stars.

I am really looking forward to this.Anne of Ingleside is the sixth book in the Anne of Green Gables series. Anne has left her beloved House of Dreams and has set up house in an old place called Ingleside. She is now the mother of six children (Jem, Walter, Nan, Di, Shirley, and Rilla).
The setting of the book is the first half of the 1900s. It starts in spring 1899 and ends in autumn 1905.
Kathy wrote: "I especially like looking at the photographs from the 1890s, many of which Montgomery took herself."Yes I enjoyed the photography. It makes it a lovely book to have.
A lovely book that is uplifting and discusses thoughtfully several issues such as why we suffer loss and heartbreak in this life. This is my favourite of the Anne series so far ❤️In this story we see the development of Anne as she moves from a young woman with large dreams and hopes to a woman with those same dreams and hopes encircled with greater knowledge of life and people.
I loved Captain Jim, Miss Cornelia and Miss Susan. Maud brings out interesting side characters in her stories that one can engage with and I think a whole book telling the story of each would be interesting.
Does anyone want to discuss the themes in the book? What are the main themes and do you agree with the angle Maud took?
I am loving the book and the new characters. Miss Cornelia is funny saying 'just like a man' all the time. I love Captain Jim, another kindred spirit.I thought Anne's wedding was simple and beautiful. People spend so much on weddings and yet they cannot be any more beautiful and sincere than Anne's sweet simple one. I felt the love and joy of the occasion.
Leslie loves dancing and so do I. I can't dance much now but I loved dancing and enjoyed and understood Leslie's love of it.
The first part of the book ends with tragedy. Anne's desire to know and love Leslie better and draw her into her heart could not be answered by anything less than experiencing heartbreak.
Katrina wrote: "I was able to check it out from my library, so have it currently. I may not read it in full, but will definitely be browsing in it and looking it over. Thanks for the recommendation."I think it is a book that can be picked up in quiet moments. It makes me want to visit PEI even more than I already did.
Virginia wrote: "When you first mentioned it I checked it out at the library and read it. It is a wonderful book. Thanks for bringing it to my attention."I am glad you enjoyed it.
Kathy wrote: "I've just begun listening to the audio, Tracey. I'm excited for this one."Yes I think it is a lovely audiobook and I am also listening to it.
Kathy wrote: "I'll be joining in, Tracey. Not sure when."Great. It is a book that can be read at any time this year.
This is a lovely book just to browse but I am looking forward to reading it. Will you be reading this with us? The landscape of the stories is a very important part of the books. It inspired Maud in her writing and is a major part of Anne's growth from an insecure fragile girl into a beautiful generous woman.
I am excited to be reading this book which covers Anne's early married years. The title is very appropriate. Anne is a dreamer and following her in her life and seeing her dreams blossoming is joyful. It was first published in 1917 and Anne is 25-27 in the story.
Have you read the book before and will you be reading it with us?
Carolien wrote: "I've just finished my reread of Anne of Green Gables and it remains one of my all time favourite books. Every time I read it, I fall in love all over with Anne and the Cuthberts and cry..."Yes the death of Matthew is heartbreaking. The relationship between Matthew and Anne is beautiful. A lot of the beauty of the books I think is the effect Anne has on people.
Kathy wrote: "I'm beginning Anne's House of Dreams."That's great. I am just posting the thread for it.
