I have The Secret History on my list for 2024. I’ve heard so many people rave about it! My hold for Oath and Honor just came in but I pushed it out so I can read other library books first. I didn’t want to start the year off with it. That’s heavy reading but important! Enjoy your challenge! 📚

I think I've made my last change! I had one non-fiction on my list for #10 but changed it to
The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which I just bought at the library bookstore. I hate to delete my only non-fiction choice but I will wind up reading something during the year!
Bill wrote: "The Dead Zone is one of my favorite King stories. And it was turned into an excellent movie too. Enjoy your selections. Happy New Year."Bill - I agree that the movie was really good! I also watched a few of the TV episodes. I've read a lot of King books but this is one I could never find. I finally bought a copy!
Butterflycager wrote: "Great list, Pam. Tom Lake and Great Circle are two that I'm hoping to read in 2024 as well. And The Road to Roswell - I've read several books by Connie Willis and I'm not sure how I missed that one..."Thanks Butterflycager! I don't even know how I came across The Road to Roswell (probably a podcast or a 2023 list). I live in NM and have been to Roswell so I thought it might be interesting! I have never even heard of Connie Willis but I see she has quite a few books and several people have commented that they like her books. I'm really looking forward to that one!

Great idea!

Escalante’s Dream looks good, especially since I live in the Southwest! I also want to read The Lacuna. Good luck w your challenge and enjoy!

I added a few of your classics to my TBR. I bought Name of the Rose for my husband this year but am hoping to read it also! Enjoy your books!
Alondra wrote: "Pam wrote: "3 of my library books have already come in so I’ve got to find 3 replacements or return them and check them out again. Thinking about adding 3 Latin American classics that I’m planning ..."Alondra - I'm actually not picking books I think I should read but books that I plan to read for group and library book club group reads. I did make a few changes now that my library has its book club schedules out. TBH, I'm really overcommitted next year. I think something will have to give!
Lindsey wrote: "I'm not familiar with most of these books. But i have a feeling I'll be adding alot of them. Good luck with your reading challenge! 😊"Thanks Lindsey! I changed #8 and substituted it with a cozy mystery
The Bullet That Missed by
Richard Osman. I feel confident that I will read this one since I'm reading book #2 in the series now and I just found this one (#3) at the library's bookstore.

The Secret History is in my top 10 books of all time, I love it so much!"I'm glad to see so much love for The Secret History! I've had it on my TBR forever and it's a group read in another group so it seems like a good time to read it! I still haven't read a single book by Donna Tartt.

I’ve read The Winter Queen, Demon Copperhead, and Cutting for Stone and thought they were all great! I didn’t realize there was a sequel to The Boy in the Striped Pajamas! Added to my TBR. Enjoy!

3 of my library books have already come in so I’ve got to find 3 replacements or return them and check them out again. Thinking about adding 3 Latin American classics that I’m planning to read - The Tunnel by Ernesto Sabato, Heartbreak Tango by Manuel Puig, and The President by Miguel Angel Asturias. Keeping my options open until the last minute, though! I’m also thinking about adding a book in Spanish for even more of a challenge. I have 2 short ones in mind. Decisions….

Red Rising is really good/fun with lots of action! I listened to the first half of Fairytale on audio and the narrator Seth Numrich is excellent! Stephen King also does some of the narration and is great. I couldn’t get into the fantasy part (2nd half) plus I think I fell asleep and missed parts so I haven’t finished it. I’m going to try to read the 2nd half in 2024. It’s great storytelling! Hope you enjoy it and the rest of your books!!

Well, I’m already going to have to change my library books since the books are coming in much sooner than I expected! I’ll wait until ~Dec 30 to revise. Who knows what I will want to read in the span of 3 weeks!

Thank you Kristin and Cecilia! I am excited to start a new year of reading! 📚

Thanks Bill! I just finished season 1 of The Paradise, which inspired me to read the book! I actually bought the book for my husband several years ago, when he was reading Zola’s books, but he never read it. He says he wants to read it, though! I had never heard of Fifth Business but it sounds really interesting and the cover has houses with eyeballs on them. A weird cover is always a plus for me! I found it on a cult classic display. Also, I’m focusing on Canadian authors next year and he is one I’ve never heard of so that’s a plus also.

Thanks Lea! Look forward to reading with you all!

Anti-intellectualism in America looks interesting, if not sobering. I added it to my TBR. Enjoy the challenge!
Lillie wrote: "Have only read one on your list, Less by Andrew Greer. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)"Thanks Lillie! I know this book was really popular when it came out and I meant to read it then, 6 years ago! Plus, it won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for fiction so it better be good, right?!
Laurel wrote: "#10 sounds fascinating. Just added to my TBR..."Laurel - I am glad you found something of interest on my list! I lent the book (The Lost Pianos of Siberia) to my dad and he just finished it. He really enjoyed it and am sure he's dying to talk with me about it! So, I need to read it fairly soon or at least read a few chapters to start with.
