1176148 That sounds like something I’ll really enjoy, and it doesn’t get focused on often enough. I think about it regarding the US Civil War too- not just the number of people who waited months then years for someone to come home, having to extrapolate from the fact that they didn’t that they died, but never knowing for sure, but also the people who did come home to find their property destroyed and their family gone, no idea where.
1176148 Go for it!
1176148 Plus that's a great looking dog!
1176148 Wow, high praise! I like that author too. (Off to check that book out!)

1176148 Oh lucky you to have an unread MKA, Jackie!

1176148 LOL Jackie. Ok, I second the nomination. Sports!
1176148 Excellent, Bonnie!! It's been years since I read this author: I'm looking forward to this.

1176148 Please nominate a genre for May 2024 in this thread, if you would like to. The only rule for genre nominations is that you cannot nominate a genre that we've already read this calendar year.

Not planning to be a huge stickler on the "genre vs subgenre" thing. If it's a recognized book category (i.e. you can reasonably expect the average Goodreads reader to know what it is), post it.

Nominations open until 4/14, poll to follow.

If you want to see examples of genres and subgenres that Goodreads has some lists for, or figure out where a book/style of book you like happens to fit, try this link:

Goodreads Genres

Genres already chosen this year:
January - Science Fiction
February - Romance
March - Mystery
April - Historical Fiction

1176148 Hi everyone! April's genre focus is historical fiction -- love to see what HF we all read in April, and whether or not we enjoyed them! Any kind of historical fiction fits, since the genre as a whole was picked. Looking forward to reading with you!
1176148 Swan Song
Swan Song by Robert McCammon

An ancient evil roams the desolate landscape of an America ravaged by nuclear war.

He is the Man with the Scarlet Eye, a malevolent force that feeds on the dark desires of the countless followers he has gathered into his service. His only desire is to find a special child named Swan—and destroy her. But those who would protect the girl are determined to fight for what is left of the world, and their souls.

In a wasteland born of rage, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies, the last survivors on earth have been drawn into the final battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of humanity....

1176148 Oh yay, a stellar review of an MKA I haven’t read yet!

1176148 Hi! Please nominate any book of your choice for the 2nd quarter group read. Nominations will close on the 1st and I'll put a poll up. Looking forward to seeing your suggestions!

1176148 Yes, sorry. My brother-in-law is terminally ill and I've been dealing with family stuff last two weeks or so, and will be for the next few weeks as well. Ugh! I'll put the thread up.

Great picks -- pets, the month's color, and the latest in the Hawaiian series that I devoured all earlier five of in less than a week. :) Plus I think I added the pearl harbor because of you!

1176148 Wow, between this challenge, and Ugly Once, Mahvelous and Help Me Decide over at CCC, I've done nothing the last two days except figure out pairs and post them, seems like!

Ah well. Time to pick! Pairs are here!
