How are you doing now, Emma?Everybody seems to have deserted us. Frenchie, Flo, Mr Books...all gone.
Crimbo. Sets my teeth on edge. If you don't want to celebrate it, don't. If you don't want to use the word "Christmas", by all means call it "the holidays" or "midwinter" or whatever.
I hadn't thought of it for years until I recently read Otis Spofford again. I like the way it feels in the mouth.
"Comeuppance." What a lovely word. It means, getting what's coming to you--usually in a "payback" sense. And these days you can tell someone they'll get their comeuppance and they won't have any idea.
Emma, if it helps any--an Internet friend suggested that instead of making "to do" lists, that often make us feel overwhelmed before we even start--wait till the end of the day and make an "accomplished" list. Even little stuff can count--took out the trash, folded the laundry, finally cleaned off the computer screen!! You'd be surprised how much more positive you feel. I've found myself doing some jobs I've been putting off, just to have something to put on the list. Also at the end of the day, when you feel tired out, if you stop and say, "What have I done today?" you can be surprised by just how much you *have* done. No wonder then!
Golly Emma, not much fun! Hope you're soon feeling better! The only way to make the chat come alive again is to stop in and say Hi and natter about whatever.
I had huge plans for sewing and organising shelves etc and of course have done sweet turf all...but got a good rest which I needed, both mentally and physically. Feel tonnes better for it.
So what are you up to Rose Marie? Am looking forward to putting decorations away, DH always wants to wait until 12th Night. I wouldn't mind but he puts them up around Nov. 20. I want my surfaces back! LOL
I dunno. Frenchie left, and even Flo seems to have disappeared. And NO, I am not asking to be made a moderator!(Wherever they are, real mods please take note. I don't want the job.)
Two old ladies are in church. The new young preacher gets a bit carried away and keeps talking...and talking...and talking. Finally one old lady leans over and says to her friend, "Gosh I hope he finishes soon, my backside's gone to sleep."Her friend replies, "Yes, I know--I heard it snore once or twice."

This is rather naughty, but I do like it!!In the film "Serial" the "family therapist" tells a woman that she has done really well at "maintaining a nearly perfect centre" while attending her exhusband's wedding to someone else. She replies as sweet as pie,
"Why, thank you, Leonard. Coming from you--that's totally unnecessary!"
I have used this on occasion. Like Leonard, it usually takes the person a good three minutes to realise what I just said, if I say it nicely.
Heard over the intercom today:"Hi, this is Maxi, the postman...I have a parcel for you."
Specially love it when it's a surprise, like today.
When you click on "add book/author" up above the comment box, you have the option to add the cover instead of just the title of the book you want. If "add link" is marked, you just get a link with the title; if you click on "add cover" you will get the cover. Like this:
Hey, Pelmus! Welcome! It's quieter than usual this holiday time, but make yourself at home.Sleeping much better, life is slow paced. Until Jan 7 of course. Then it's back to the old mill and race.
Have a lovely Christmas, New Year, Hannukah and anything else that occurs to you to celebrate. And be safe out there, especially on the roads.
I am so DONE with Ginger and Ganesh: Adventures in Indian Cooking, Culture, and Love. Ugh. I was thoroughly disgusted with the authoress (and her proofreader/editor or lack thereof) by the time I trudged through it. Not worth the effort. There are much better cooking resources online.
Started Silent in the Sanctuary as a night-read. Uhhh. Too much 21st century American idiom in a book set in 19th century Britain. A baron would not say of his new daughter in law, "I like her fine" in the 1880s. Aaargh. Will I finish it? Probably. Will I look for more of Raybourne's books? Never.
