Will that be too far in the distance for you, Paul?
I haven't got around to sending out a general friends invite yet; maybe I should "create an event", which, as I remember, one can set to send out automatic reminders close to the start of the event.

I've started a thread for now, in which we can post background goodies as we might come across them in our travels: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

One of the first subjects I myself need to read up a bit on, is exactly what a Foucault pendulum is.
According to Wikipedia:
The Foucault pendulum,... named after the French physicist Léon Foucault, is a simple device conceived as an experiment to demonstrate the rotation of the Earth.
While it had long been known that the Earth rotated, the introduction of the Foucault pendulum in 1851 was the first simple proof of the rotation in an easy-to-see experiment. Today, Foucault pendulums are popular displays in science museums and universities.
For more detail, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foucault...
They have a few nice illustrations there, even if you don't feel like reading through all of the theory.

In any case, the group now exists, so now we have no excuse come November.
I'll start off by admitting that I'm not too sure what a Foucault's pendulum does, so I'll do some research on that before we start reading, but any of you who wants to post background info in the meantime, please feel free. I think I'll create a special thread for that, eh?

I see Ulrike has already found the group, (welcome Ulrike) while I'm still struggling to find a nice masthead... I tell you, it's much harder than you would think, due to the fact that the masthead (the banner at the top) has to be a long, thin oblong shape of certain proportions.
Invites forthcoming as soon as I either find something nice or give up... maybe members can help out finding with a nice, long landscape format picture?
