Welcome to another month of the Nerd Daily Bookclub. Welcome to anyone who is new, we're excited to have you! And welcome to everyone who is coming back for another month, you are the essence of our souls and make us very very happy!
We will be reading A Phoenix First Must Burn this month but it's going to be a bit different to what we did the past months.
Due to the fact that we will be discussing a book with short stories, we thought we'd just leave a reading schedule for this month. Instead, you are free to roam, read which ever short story strikes your fancy first and discuss them here!
Besides simply discussing this month's book however, we would also like to open up the conversation about the BLM movement and which experiences you have had with it. For this, there will be a seperate discussion topic, though :)
Lots of Love,
Mimi & Simone

If you'd both send my your full addresses, I will send you your prizes asap!
(We have decided on giving away a "Noah would never" button and bookmark to our second place).
Congrats Guys!
Also, do let me know if you would be okay to be named in our write up for the blog now that the giveaway is over or if you'd like to remain anonymous! :)

I don't know what I love most about this book. I mean I do love Noah most. Possibly because I can feel his exasperation, I too have a real talent for getting in awkward and uncomfortable situations and therefore I feel like him and me are the SAME. Though, luckily, I have never peed out of a window onto my mum's barely legal boyfriend. Or had a half sibling. I also don't have a Harry *sigh*.
But I am so happy that we all got to go on this journey together and I am throwing Noah feels all around *MWAH* *MWAH*

I have two more entries for you! And they are - if i may say so - horrifying! This is going to be a super tough call!
#4 Can I try that?
I was at a barbecue with some friends and one of the girls invited had brought her boyfriend who was sitting next to me. He opted for a burger while I had a sausage. She had some grilled vegetables. So he leaned over and examined the sausage I was eating and asked "Can I try some of that?" a good reaction would have been to say "sure, so ahead" and let him have at it. Was that what I did? Nope. I honest to god said "sure" and cut him off a piece of my sausage which was then of course on my fork. I have no idea what I was thinking but between the awkwardly fumbling with my fork and his knife on his plate and feeding him, there literally are no other options. Awkward fumbling it was. Everyone was clearly taken aback and I felt so embarassed. Since then, I avoid him at parties - and this was 2 years ago!
#5 My meet-and-kiss
I was incredibly lucky to have won a meet and greet with one of my favorite singers. I went there all giddy and excited and when he hugged me in greeting, we kind of went into the same direction with our heads? Which may or may not have ended with my lips brushing the corner of his mouth?
As a VIP fan, I had the perk of staying in the venue right after the M&G so technically front row rights. Trust me that I was standing way way in the back with the reddest face I've ever had and can't even recall most of the concert.
Thank you all for sending in your stories! Honestly, these are so amazingly cringeworthy - we sure enjoyed them a lot.
In a minute, a poll will go up where you can vote for your favourite! The entry that wins will recieve a copy of Noah Goes Nuclear!
The winner will be announced on June 30th! If your story wins, make sure to write either Mimi or me (Simone) a DM with your address! Thank you and Good Luck,
xx, Mimi & Simone

I am sad to see one of my favourite boys go <3
But I am super excited to see what all of you think about the ending and the plot twists and turns and whether or not you're just as exasperated as Noah!! :)

I think what‘s important here is to remind ourselves that Noah is just about to turn 16 after all. He is in that awkward phase between kid and growing up and is suddenly bombarded with all of these things he isn’t really comfortable with. I mean the initial thought of “I need a girlfriend“ emerges because of peer pressure not because he actually wanted one.
I just want to wrap him up in a blanket and tell him he‘ll be fine, honestly...

It‘s halftime for this month‘s bookclub read and the Deadline for the giveaway is coming closer and closer!
So! What did you think about chapters 19-29?
Xx, Mimi & Simone

We hope you're enjoying Noah so far - we know we are! To quote my fabulous co-host Mimi: "never have I ever met characters who were this pure of heart but dumb of ass" - and WE LOVE THEM!
Okay, but this thread is not about what Noah et al. are experiencing, but what you've experienced.
We asked you for your most embarassing memories for a chance to win a physical copy of "Noah goes Nuclear" and without further ado, here are the first entries:
#1 Ordering a bear
Okay so I was in London and I was at a pub with some of my friends and the bar tender was seriously cute so I decided to give it my all and flirt with him when I went to get a round of drinks. I was kind of nervous because he was so hot and my English isn't perfect since I'm not actually from England. So I walked up to him and smiled at him and ordered in my most British sounding accent. It was all fun until I ordered a cider with berry flavour and for some reason my brain didn't remember the correct word for berries and ordered 'a cider with bear'. It took a while until he understood and when he did, he laughed so loudly half of the pub was looking at us and i was mortified. Obviously the flirting was put on ice but even worse, the guy kept looking over and randomly starting to laugh the rest of the night and my friends thought it was equally funny. I was so embarassed.
#2 Lunch in the Loos
Hi! what happened to me still haunts me today and i get random flashbacks to it. i was in high school at the time and i had this huge issue about eating in front of other people (i was slightly chubby back then and was bullied)... sometimes i would eat my lunch in the bathroom. Like sitting on a toilet getting my lunch out trying to be as quiet as possible so noone heard what i was doing...this one day it was very busy in the toilets while i was eating my sandwich and all of a sudden the door to my cubicle opens and my classmate is standing there staring at me... thatll teach me to never ever forget to lock a cubicle again. i was so embarrassed i didn't talk to her for the rest of our time there
#3 Drunken Shenanigans
A few years ago I was on a night out and I got drunk INCREDIBLY quickly to the point that I had to be supported down the street from friends so I didn't fall over. We went in a new bar but it quickly became evident that I needed to go home. A taxi was called. As we waited I fell asleep in the street and my friends later told me that a homeless person felt so sorry for me that he put his blanket over me to keep me warm while we waited. I got taken home (I don't remember any of this...) And woke to find myself completely naked in the kitchen as my brother's girlfriend walks in. Suffice it to say I couldn't look her in the face for weeks.

I also just love Noah, he‘s so exasperated all the time and I feel him. They both need to be protected at all costs!

Do we already have thoughts on the next chapters? :)
I certainly do... Are we ready to share yet?

How is everyone feeling on this fine first of June?
Today is the official beginning of PRIDE MONTH so we would love to wish everyone celebrating happy pride.

we have a very special treat for you this month. Because we are able to give away a copy of "Noah Goes Nuclear". For those of you who know what it is also know how rare a physical copy is. For those of you who are not familiar with it: Noah Goes Nuclear is a short story that was released in physical form for the British Young Adult Book Convention YALC a few years ago.
Now.
Here's what you've got to do to win our grand prize:
1. Have fun.
2. Send your most embarassing/awkward/cringey story ANONYMOUSLY to either Mimi or me in a Private Message.
We will then post them anonymously in a thread for everyone to read and vote on their favourite story. And: You guessed it, the story with the most votes wins!
After voting is over and done with, we will then reveal the story that has won - HOWEVER due to the fact that they might be very personal stories, we will leave it up to you to either reveal yourself as the writer of one of them or not.
Please also include in your Private Message if you are fine with us using your story (not your name) for our Book Club write up on The Nerd Daily Blog.
Here are the dates you have to remember:
Send us your stories until 20.6..
Voting begins on June 21 and will end June 27
The Winner will be announced June 30
Happy writing! :)

Week 2 (8.-14.6.): Chapter 10-18
Week 3 (15.-21.06.): Chapter 19-29
Week 4 (22.-30.6.): Chapter 30-42
There will be individual discussion groups for the weekly chapters to be read, so we can all share our thoughts and feels!
Be warned, though - the threads will be filled with spoilers, so enter at your own risk if you haven't read the pages by that point!

For me, it’s definitely my veganism. As someone who has a lot of issues especially with themselves, having a belief of doing something 110% the right way is super empowering. That isn’t to say that I judge anyone who doesn’t have the same values, but for me, being so very sure of this one thing in my life makes so many things easier and it makes me feel calm and at home in times where i‘m unsure about literally everything else!

Can you believe it's our last week of Felix Ever After??
I really hope you've enjoyed the journey so far and are as excited for the last chapters as I am.
Next Sunday, we'll be starting Noah Can't Even by the fantastic Simon James Green and I hope you're as stoked as I am!
That also means that next Sunday is the last Sunday to get your self-portraits in!
While this challenge is just for fun, I am so happy to announce that we will have a giveaway next month and you'll get the chance to win one of the super rare short stories "Noah goes Nuclear". Now, the story is on the internet for free to enjoy but there is only a very limited supply of physical copies and you could win one!
WHO IS EXCITED?!?!
Anyway, onwards and upwards with your boy Felix!
What do we think? And: would you enjoy a larger (live) discussion about the whole of the book at the end of next week? Let us know!
Love,
Mimi & Simone
