Vixen looked around. “Not by the vents. They will be guarding those.” She thought for a second. “We need to get under the floor. We can get out through the sewers.”
“If I slow down, we might all be dead.” Vixen was worried. She knew nobody saw, but one guard escaped. He would warn the others. He would bring more guards. They would be trapped. “We have to get out of here.” Vixen said determinedly. She winced again and saw the blood dipping down her wings. “We have to survive.”
“I won’t take it.” Vixen said firmly. Her tone showed that she wouldn’t change her mind. Vixen could be stubborn when was he wanted to. “You aren’t going to make anything else for a while, ok?” Vixen turned to the rest of the group. “That goes for everybody. Do NOT use your powers unless it is absolutely necessary. We need to conserve our power if we are gonna make it out of here.”
“You are the leader as much as I am.” Vixen countered. She pushed back Iko’s hands and wouldn’t take it.
“Yes. Do it Canto.” Vixen ordered, wincing in pain. She grabbed Iko’s limp hand and tried to channel energy to her. She ignored the pain, she knew this was more important. Vixen looked at the knife sticking out of Iko. She gently pulled it out and put pressure on the wound. She took the 3D image and used it on Iko. “Please work.” She whispered. “Please.”
Vixen took it and wrapped the strip of cloth on top of the piece already there. Within seconds, it was drenched with blood too. Vixen just nodded thanks. It hurt too much to waste words.
Vixen saw Iko’s panic. She fought through the pain and got up. She sagged against the wall, pausing to catch her breath. Her wings were throbbing and the wound in her side steadily gushed blood. Vixen stumbled over to Iko and Snow, sinking to her knees in pain. “Snow... Snow, can you hear me?”
Vixen groaned, trying to get up. She heard Snow and Iko talking, but couldn’t make out the words. After a few moments, Vixen collapsed again. The pain was too great. “Arteest.” She gasped. “What’s...wrong?”
Vixen groaned and tried to sit up, gasping at the pain. She lifted her hand from her side and saw that it was covered in blood. “I’m fine Slick. It’s just a little scrape.” Vixen said, lying through her teeth. She curled her damaged wings in around her. She was feeling dizzy from the loss of blood. Her wings ached and her side sent blinding shocks of pain every time she moved.Vixen shook her head to clear it and looked around at the room. “Is everybody ok?” She couldn’t help feeling responsible for their defeat. If only she hadn’t rushed them. If only she had been stronger, braver, smarter, maybe none of this would’ve happened. I’m sorry Serenity. We’ve failed. I’ve failed...
Vixen moved on. She finally made it to Snow and collapsed. “You did it.” She managed to gasp. “You took them all out.” Vixen laid there in the floor, the gash in her side, bleeding a lot and the bullet holes in her wings leaking blood.
Guards were falling dead all around her. Vixen pressed on, receiving more and more holes in her wings. “Snow! Please stop!” Vixen practically cried. The pain was taking over and her vision was going red. She still moved on towards Snow.
Vixen saw Snow and tried to fight her way over to her. “Snow! Snow calm down!” She yelled, but her words were lost in the chaos. Vixen got closer and tried to dodge the bullets, but she couldn’t. Multiple bullets pierced her wings as she tried to block them. Vixen gritted her teeth and pressed forward, heading for Snow. She ignored the pain, it wa so oh temporary. Death on the other hand, death was permanent.
Vixen heard Eva’s voice, but it sounded far away. She struggled to get up. No one beats the Coven. She thought determinedly. Vixen tore off a piece of her cape and bound her cut. It was bleeding a lot, but she hoped that would stem the flow. She finally got to her feet, dizzy and shaking. New sparks of pain shot through her body and she almost collapsed. “No.” She gritted her teeth. Vixen saw her dagger on the ground and picked it up. Keeping her right hand on her wound, she fought with her left. There were too many guards. We’d better get out of here if we want to live. Vixen thought grimly. How did everything go so wrong?
Vixen saw a guard, sneaking up on Snow, but her back was turned. “Snow!” She yelled. Vixen jumped in between the guard and Snow. She was hit in the gut with what seemed to be some kind of dangerous, rusty looking sword. Vixen fell to the ground in a heap and the guard smiled wickedly. Vixen groaned and tried to sit up, but she couldn’t. Pain made her vision flicker and everything around her seemed to go in slow motion. The guard was coming in for the kill and all she could do was watch.
Vixen heard Snow yell and looked up, almost getting hit. She saw Eva on the ground. “No!” She yelled and took off. Thankfully, she still had her wings. Vixen landed right next to her and started fending off the attackers. She was a fighting frenzy. She fought harder than she ever knew she could. No Eva, no! Vixen fought smart. She was everywhere at once. Nobody could touch her or get even slightly close to Eva. She used her wings to her advantage, blocking blows or creating wind. I don’t think we can do this much longer! She thought in a panic.
Vixen stepped over Snow, trying not to squish her. She swiped and slashed, herding the guards towards the door. Unfortunately, she was getting tired. The guards were almost to the door when she ran out of energy. Vixen changed back to a human, but she was left with oversized wings. Oh great! She groaned. Vixen grabbed her daggers and started fighting hand to hand with the guards, trying to force them back through the door. It seemed impossible though because there were so many! She used her wings to block a blow at Eva and then countered with a string blow of her own, striking the guard down.
Vixen jumped out of the vent and scanned the room. It looked big enough. She whispered a few words and became her Sprit Fox. Her eyes were flashing and her claws were out. She swiped at the seemingly never ending supply of guards. Her tail whipped around, knocking a bunch of them over.
Vixen winced at the sound. “Go!” She whispered to the group. She hoped they knew what they were doing.
“Yeah.” Vixen said. “Stand by to extract his life.” She scanned the group. “Let’s just hope we are enough.”
