I absolutely love du Maruier's writing.
Have you ever read anything of her's before?

I am actually looking forward to this book being over. What about you?

This book is B.O.R.I.N.G.

How are you liking the book so far?

Have you ever read this book?
Have you read anything else by Mark Twain?

Final Thoughts?
Did you like this book?
Did you like the characters?

What do you think about Samuel Corlett?

Bethia and Caleb are giving me Cathy and Heathcliff vibes.

In what ways is the term "crossing" significant?

Look at Bethia's discussion of the question "Who are we?" at the top of p. 57. Of the options that she offers, which seems most true to you? Are there other options you would add to her list?

To be a woman during this time must have been unbelievably exhausting.

I saw this in another group.
The first person names a book and the next person says they liked it, hated it, or never read it. Then the next person gives another book title and so on.

What are your initial thoughts on the story?
How do reading and learning a language open doors for Bethia and Caleb?
Why does Makepeace not take learning as seriously Bethia? Does it have to do with learning being Bethia's "Forbidden Fruit"?
How did you feel about the whales?
What do you think about the setting? Have you ever been to Martha's Vineyard?

Not gonna lie, I'm not really enjoying this book a whole lot. The beginning was interesting, but the further in the novel I get the less excited I am about it. The writing is great, but this just isn't my cup of tea.

This is my first time reading this play and I am reading it with my class. I love a good allegory. What do you think?

This is my second time reading Harry Potter. The first time was a very, very, very long time ago when I was in 6th or 7th grade. Well over a decade ago. Reading it again for a second time as an adult is proving to be very nostalgic, but the kind of nostalgia that is bitter sweet and leaves you craving simpler times.

What did you think overall? Loved it, liked it, or hated it?

I'm 60 pages away from the ending and have been agonizing over the fact that Dolores and Dante's marriage was built on Dolores' lies. The cracked foundation it was built on was going to topple the entire thing eventually. It toppled so satisfactorily.
