[close] Membrii grupului pot pune întrebări autoarei despre romanul ei, Letopiseț cu doua regine (Two Queens and a Chronicler) publicat recent de Open Ends Press la New York in limba engleza. Romanul este inspirat de viața reginelor Maria si Elisabeta. Va amintesc ca pe 29 octombrie sărbătorim 150 de la nașterea Reginei Maria. Letopiseț cu două regine este un roman istoric atipic scris în întregime ca o conversație între trei femei imigrante — cele două regine și cronicarul lor, un alter ego al autoarei, o scriitoare americana de origine romana. Romanul este un dialog între trecut și prezent, invitând cititorii vorbitori de limbă engleză si română să regândească prezentul în raport cu faptele din trecut. Vorbind de dincolo de mormânt într-un stil deliberat modern și ireverent, cele două regine reflectă asupra evenimentelor contemporane (atât din epoca lor, cât și din timpul nostru), politică, alți membri ai familiei regale, dragoste, artă, frumusețe și viață în general. Ambele femei sunt artiste și scriitoare sofisticate: Regina Maria are un gust desăvârșit în designul interior, este o pictoriță magistrală a florilor, iar stilul ei în proză a fost lăudat de nimeni alta decât Virginia Woolf. Regina Elisabeta, care a realizat obiecte de artă religioase brodate, este o poetă și traducătoare remarcabilă, care scrie sub pseudonimul Carmen Sylva, vorbește fluent mai multe limbi, inclusiv germană, franceză, română, italiană și suedeză. Cele două regine împărtășesc ceva cu cronicarul lor – sunt scriitoare imigrante. Deși acesta este un roman literar, aproape toate evenimentele descrise sunt reale. [close] To truly recognize the military and veteran community is to be informed of the various and complex histories, experiences, and narratives of military culture and veteran knowledge. The MAVRC Book Club, organized by the Military and Veteran Veteran Services at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), will present a series of readings and discussions to better comprehend and interpret the policies and procedures that developed the United States Armed Forces, and make sense of the terrain and bureaucracy that military personnel and veterans navigate daily. Hosting such a book club will cultivate conversations with the purpose of dismantling stereotypes and the romanticism on the meaning of service. Through its diverse readings, the book club aims to highlight the contributions of its veterans, dissect the policies and procedures that have shaped military and veteran life, and to gain a worldly perspective on the conflicts that the United States Armed Forces has engaged in since its formal establishment. All book club meetings are open virtually to the public. Trigger warning: Books selected may deal with themes and topics of war and combat; sexual assault, abuse, harassment, and violence; disabilities, physical and mental health, and trauma; gender and sexual identity; race, culture, and ethnicity; and politics and religion.
