Many of today's most popular books raise issues that are connected to these issues -- creating the perfect opportunity to discuss their importance with our friends, families, coworkers, and other book clubs. Join us as we read and discuss equality, empowerment, and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking as it appears in contemporary books. (For example, was Edward and Bella’s relationship in the Twilight series unhealthy? Did The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series really do that much to raise awareness about violence against women? -- We probably won’t be reading those series, but that’s an example of the types of discussions we have – and the type of books we read!) Reader with a Cause was created by the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV). NNEDV is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a social, political, and economic environment where violence against women no longer exists. (Learn more at www.nnedv.org.)

[close] Calling all writers! Calling everyone who wants to spread awareness for issues they’re passionate about! Calling those with unique experiences related to education and current issues! I’m working on a writing compilation which will focus on access to education and how education affects and is affected by current issues. I’m incredibly flexible on the topic as long as it related to education in some way. Pieces will either be short stories, essays or poems.
