We then discuss our points of view pertaining to how we connected with the book, or not, and how it relates to our own life experiences. The goal is to expose ourselves to new ideas, frames of reference, challenging beliefs, and learning more about ourselves.

[close] There is death, which awaits everyone, and there is a life after death. Some learn about the existence of the afterlife either from local traditions or from religion. But there is a growing number of people who claim to have briefly experienced life in the spiritual realm through near-death or out-of-body experiences and have reported these in literature, on internet websites, on radio, television and through other means. This group has been set up to explore this whole question relating to NDEs, death and dying, the hereafter, heaven and hell, the soul and spirit of man, and other related subjects.

[close] The idea is to find authentic books on shamanism, in both non-fiction and shamanism. Unfounded fantasy is not desired. We could, for instance discuss the differences and similarities between the Toltec based books of Carlos Castaneda and don Miguel Ruiz. Then we could compare those with the books of Michael Harner. Then we could address the fiction of Michael Gruber. His books, particularly the Jimmy Paz books, are well grounded in Santeria. It's a bit subject, but we want to weed out the inauthentic.
