After a mysterious event several decades ago, mutants began cropping up all over the world (with fantastic powers, such as flight or telekinesis). The discovery eventually led to a war, in which one of the mutants, Orpheus Hail, crowned himself Dictator of the USA. Needless to say, he was quickly overthrown and, after getting their government back on track, humans developed a strong hatred for any and all mutants. As a student or teacher at LA high school, you must pick a side. Mutant or human? Or mutant-loving human? You decide.

The virtual bookshelves in this group highlight recommended titles for Gr 10-12 shared reading, book club and novel study collections. We invite all members to become active contributors to this group and continue to add books as new engaging titles are discovered. In the book description about why we should "read" this book, please add helpful details: - any cautions for the book - if it should be limited to a particular grade level - if you would use it as part of a thematic set - tasks that naturally extend from the theme of the book - tips for how you use this book with your students While we value great YA Lit and independent reading, this is not intended to be a general list of popular titles that we might recommend to our school libraries or suggest a student read on their own. Also, www.teachingbooks.net has generated lists of recommended novels K-12 and identified supporting resources (audiobook excerpts, links to author pages, sample lesson plans, etc.) for each of the titles on their lists. You are welcome to post direct links to their annotated titles in your description if you feel it would be helpful.
