Gifts

[close] When giving a book as a gift, it's often very nice to have a little something else alongside it. And it makes the book all the more meaningful and memorable when the gift fits to the story given with it. I have a particular fondness for out-of-print and used books. I think these make GREAT gifts, but when it comes to wrapping them up, there's always that consumeristic side of me conditioned to think, "A used book? Really?". Adding a very thoughtful extra, which could itself be secondhand, totally negates this problem for me. I also like crisp, new hardback gift and anniversary editions, which on their own make special gifts. But with that little trinket on the side, it elevates it to something very memorable and thoughtful. I will add my recommendations here - please add your own for others to share! Add a new book and a gift idea, or add your own gift idea to a listed book. (Authors, I would appreciate it if you don't promote your own books). For example: - The Wizard of Oz + "ruby" sequined slippers - Mary Poppins + an umbrella with a bird's head for a handle - Alice in Wonderland + a mismatched colourful tea service - Holes + a shovel ..? Well, it would depend on the recipient... XD Obscure books are fine, strange gifts okay - but please note this is a public group and try to keep it acceptable for all ages (or at least choose your words delicately!). :)
