From "Wild Wild West" to "Cowboys and Aliens" and "Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare", the genre has seen an explosion of weird. Was the OK Corral shootout actually a last stand against zombies? What about alternate-history Wild West steampunk? Lovecraftian gold mine dwellers? Parallel-world gunslingers like Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series? Modern-day "Justified"-style vampire hunters?
