It feels like the world is changing, we know that being actively anti-racist will help accelerate the BLM movement and bring us close to a world without racism. Learning, listening and challenging our own implicit bias are all great ways to start this journey so this book group is here to build a community that can come together to have meaningful discussion driven by reading and digesting content relating to racism, colonialism, the history we never taught at school, bias and how we can drive change.

[close] Welcome to the book club – reading with intention and purpose to educate ourselves on the history of racial discrimination. Awareness of deeply painful events is spreading widely. If it has come as a shock to you, it is because many of us have not been listening closely or doing our part. This book club is not to blame anyone for not taking action previously, it is to encourage education beyond the current news cycle. This is the moment for serious change that requires dedication and time. Reading is an instrumental tool in education. It can be time consuming, painful, difficult, and expensive to get through books that handle such heavy topics that we aren’t used to consuming in such a large quantity. My hope with this book club is to bring together a group of people who are determined to learn more and to encourage intentional reading of books by POC authors.
