Not so. That's "sour grapes."
I agree with Linda C. The analogy of The Emperor's New Clothes is exactly the impression I had when I finally quit in literal disgust . Still resent the hour or so of my life that was wasted on this terrible--in fact actually nauseous pretense at writing.
Glad you like wasting your time on pages of stream of consciousness drivel, Frank. Don't let me stop you. As I said, MY OPINION. Now go drink more of the Joyce kool-aid.
Linda and Maxine, don't be so dismissive of what you were not able to comprehend. I spent 60 years on Ulysses, and it was worth it. I promise you that Joyce's Ulysses is literary gold, but you would be right about his Finnegans Wake, which is the pot of god at the end of the rainbow--pure blarney.
Frank D. I've read many a difficult book. Half through this one, there is a coherent story. But the book is rather bad and self indulgent. It's easy to read actually. Difficult to finish when do pointlessly long and vacuous.
It's not a matter of not comprehending. It's a matter of not wanting to waste my reading time on something that is both hard work and not worth it at the end of the day. But, as I said, only my opinion.
