message 1: by Kathy from ABQ (new)

Kathy from ABQ Nylon was invented by a chemist at DuPont de Nemours in 1935, It offered stockings to women in 1939 which sold out very quickly. After the US was bombed at Pearl Harbor, the military commandeered nylon for use in parachutes, cording etc. Thus making it unavailable for nylons during the war. However, there could have been nylons "floating" around, given they were sold in 1939.

Sylvia Snowe Yes!!! My mom lived in Minnesota during WWII, she told me you couldn't get nylons or silk, it was all used for parachutes. She wore leg make up, and it was useless. Absolutely, no shopgirl in France during WWII wore nylons! Yet Marie was specifically told not to wear them...

Lori T i caught that too! they made a point in training about how there were no nylons in France, and the women had to paint the line with iodine - but Marie lands in
france the first day and her nylons get wet?!/

Lori T this author just seems to write in a vacuum - not taking time to do the research needed for historical novels
