Well said! I had no idea until the end and was shocked!!! Definitely one of my favorite books ever!!! Well written! Know of any other ones like this???
I have read few books that I actually enjoyed this much. I will have to think about whether I have found other books I have liked as much. I picked up a book by Ruth Sepetys called Out Of the Easy. I actually judged the book by its cover and that's why I bought it. After I finished it and went to review it, I discovered it was a young adult fiction book. It was an absolute five star book for me. The story of a young girl/woman, like Kya, an outcast in New Orleans. I ended up reading all of Sepetys books and gave every one a five. Yes, they were YA but at 60 years old I absolutely loved them. Quick reads but fascinating.
I love this book and I completely agree with you Lori. I think the defense attorney was really very good at poking holes at every piece of evidence that was presented. The red cap was the one that made me think she may have done it. Only Tate, Kya & the readers of the book knew she had just recently got the cap from Tate.
Lori, I like that you also suspected others, including Jumpin' - I'm still not convinced it had to be just Kya. The time frame still bothers me. It seems unlikely. What if she plotted with Jumpin' and he got the necklace back for her? I also appreciate the importance of it being her - with the firefly behavior as foreshadowing. But if the necklace could possibly be explained away. Another question - why keep the necklace. Take the rawhide out and it's just a shell. Not that easily identifiable.
That is what makes this book so brilliant. I can't remember enjoying a book this much as hard as parts of it were to read!
I thought it was Tate too! I figured he waited until she left town so she couldn't be a suspect and did it then!
I would have been SO upset if it had been Tate. It wouldn't have made any sense because he would have confessed before letting Kya be falsely accused of the murder. There's no way (as his love of her was described) that he would have let her suffered for a crime he had committed.
