That interpretation also fits the theme of the book which is spurned spouses taking revenge on lovers who have replaced them.

I'm not saying it was well explained. I had to connect a lot of not too obvious dots, but I think I got there in the end. I thought maybe she should have had to forgive him first, but maybe that's too Western.
