Heather I agree that Adara's storyline is cliche. However, there's plenty of other kick-ass women in the novel so I was actually totally fine with it. And there's definitely a feeling that Adare will play a larger role in the series.

Brian Wait until you meet Pyrre and Nira.

Joe Henriod "I think it's a valid criticism of the first book"

What kind of author leads with that? This kind of bullshit prevents me from being able to put Trigger Warnings on my review.

Seriously Brian, will you just be a jerk so we can hate you?

Hamzah Shafiq Heh, you weren't kidding. That second books was off the chains! And the female characters were especially awesome.

message 5: by Callum (new)

Callum Barca Is an author allowed to write a book these days without having to be to subjected to the whims of the politically correct Borg?

message 6: by Agnes (new)

Agnes Conway Jeeze, would anyone be able to write anything if they had to make sure it was all politically correct? Plus which it adds to the tension in the books.

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen Great, now I HAVE to read book two right away. Here's to hoping that I can find time to put it on my iPod tonight. Why did I not do this before? I've only had the mp3 cd's sitting on my desk for a few months...

message 8: by Riki (new)

Riki I don't understand the criticism. The setting is medieval-ish with a patriarchal structure. It helps show just how much of an obstacle Adare had to overcome, and if anything makes her more of a badass.

message 9: by Todd (new)

Todd Pund Criticism of gender roles? Of all the women in the first book ONE of them lead what could be considered stereotypical, even in the first book. Why the hell would anyone even think that, let alone ask it?

Mr Shroom someone needs to cook

Paulo "paper books only" I hate this kind of questions. The author writes good stories he doesn't need to check all the boxes on minorites, womens, mens, children and penguins. Goodamnit SJW crap crawling everywhere. A good story can have a straight white male like it can be a bixesual mix black japanese she-male lol. Oh well... please don't stop writing the way you want because of this political correctness...

message 12: by Agnes (new)

Agnes Conway In almost every culture ever, women have been at the bottom of the heap, so I can't get too worked up about how some female characters act. It's a couple of years since I read the book, but I don't remember her being content with her lot. BS's female characters were pretty good, I thought.
