Eleanor is as self absorbed as many of the characters. But she's more flaky. One day when Nick is young, she jets off someplace and never makes arrangements for Nick to be picked up from school. That's how he gets to know Colin, Colin's Grandmother gets her driver to take Nick home. Even when Nick is coming to Singapore with Rachel, instead of being there to meet her, Eleanor already jets off again to get dirt on Rachel, afraid she's not rich enough for her son. So everyone else has met her before Nick's mother shows up and tries to ruin Nick's proposal to Rachel. Then she's so immature she yells that her whole life was devoted to making sure Nick inherits all the family money, when he was the only heir anyway. Her facts are all wrong. I hope Rachel gets back at her. Eleanor is so flaky.
