Lori thank you for your honest opinion Kiki. I have yet to read it, and now I don't know if I want to...then again, maybe I will...As of yet I am uncertain.

Kiki Get it from the public library, to minimize your risk! :) And who knows? Maybe our taste in books is very different.

Lori that was exactly what I was going to do...thanks.

zendegy I was painfully disappointed!! French is one of the few authors I feel I can count of for dependable excellence. I can't even maintain focus on this book. I wish the shallow character in question had been offed and we'd been left to read about the detectives investigating the case.

message 5: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Martin I agree much of the book was tedious and Toby's thoughts less than interesting. The ending scene with Toby and Rafferty was not in the least believable. By then I was just slogging to get the book done.

message 6: by Deborah (new)

Deborah This book is about 200 pages too long. And that's about the nicest thing I can say about it.

Lisa Exactly! The skull (book jacket, not a spoiler) isn't found until page 162. Way too much filler backstories etc. And, I really, really agree with you about that "other person" in that last "event." Not believable in any way.

message 8: by Molly (new)

Molly YES. You put it perfectly.

Madhurabharatula Pranav Rohit Kasinath I love it when I trawl through the comments and find someone who has the same issues with a book. Avoiding spoilers but I disliked the final "event" as well, also I had major issues with a lot aspects related to the reveal, not the reveal itself.

Chad Hansen-Saunders I just did not enjoy the book. It’s well written and does have some good areas. As a whole I found it very slow and predictable. The plot when you describe it intriguing but when I was reading I was bored a lot of the time. I was disappointed because I have really liked her other books.

Olaf Schrank This review reflects everything I feel after having just finished it. One of the most depressing books I've read in a long time. She is a brilliant writer and I certainly will read more from her...but this one I'll choke up to time not well spent.
