Jessica I took "Taylor made me do it" as Claire's way of keeping the truth quiet, like that's what Claire would tell everyone if Amber/Taylor tried to tell the truth.

I took the mother thing as Amber's mother pitied/loved Claire more because of the situation she was in and that took the feeling of love away from Amber throughout her life. In the diary, Claire talks about how caring, loving, and wonderful Amber's parents are; Amber didn't feel the same way because Claire was getting their attention. Amber said in the beginning "She was the new and improved daughter my parents always wanted; they thought she was perfect. So did I at first, but as soon as she arrived into our family, I was forgotten. They never knew her the way I did, they didn't see what I saw."

Pamela Small There is no sequel!

message 3: by Elena (new)

Elena Amber is the real manipulator.
We have a couple in which Amber is the dominant one and Claire is only the subservient one.
Claire can't plan, she's not as scheming as Amber, she's violent and acts only to preserve the relationship between them and also after Amber command.
Amber is a pathological liar so we can't trust what she says about her feelings: her mother was cold, she didn't want her but she half-raised her anyway. The mother said Amber was selfish and self-centered and I trust her word. Claire knows how to get loved by Amber's parents because it's what she wanted all along and she's fierce and overly protective of those she loves. So the parents thought they finally had a normal daughter, not a solitary selfish one.

Franchesca Tedaldi I have no desire to continue with a sequel. This one was convoluted enough for me.
