Kim Gregory Cintia, for the reasons that you have mentioned many people have gone the way of indi publishing, or self-publishing their stories. Are you writing Christian fiction? If God has called you to this ministry, then don't let anything stop you!

Cintia No, I never wrote Christian fiction, I'm more of the fantasy type. But I do believe storytelling is my thing. And I don't know how self-publishing works in my country, I actually am from Argentina and write in Spanish

I also write fantasy and historical fiction and it does get discouraging to think of your book gathering dust on a shelf (if it does get published at all).
I try to think of the problem at hand, which at the moment is actually getting the manuscript finished. Once I've done that, I will do more research on publishers and the process in which it works.
When an idea comes into your head, no matter how silly it seems at the time, you should write it down. I use my phone for this, although paper might be better. I hate thinking about all the ideas I've lost because I wasn't bothered writing them down.
When you see something that discourages you, just remember this: my dad tells me that you don't have to be a bestseller to make your writing worth it, you might just touch one person's life for the better and that makes all the difference :)
God bless,
Alanah
