I liked Matter too. Having read some of his other books, I actually thought that the storyline was comparatively more straight-forward than some of his other novels. But the amount of thought and detail that went into the creation of the setting in which the story took place was impressive. Banks' Use of Weapons was an interesting experiment in converging narrative time-lines. Which favorite science fiction authors would your recommend for others to read? Thanks.

R.E. McCready Hmm. Great question. I recommend Arthur C Clarke, Alfred Bester and Olaf Stapledon. There are probably a ton of others!
