If these two were bisexual (which it seems to me they were) then no matter how deeply they love their wives or future lovers, they can't help but always look back on the 6 weeks as a tremendous passage in their lives. At least we see that was the case for Oliver, concerning is cor cordium. And even though Elio tried to convince himself that there were greater milestones that came and went, this coming of age experience with Oliver most certainly remained on a pedestal.
