MummysLilGremlin Sadly I completely agree with you... when I was a teen what was considered a great book was SO MUCH different from today. Granted there have always been cheap Romance books that people enjoy reading because its the book equivalent of bad sitcom TV, but what ever floats your toaster. I was fortunate to have bookworm parents: "here you want a great adventure book? Go Read the Odyssey by homer or The hobbit by Tolkien"... Books like The Outsiders, catch 22, Fahrenheit 451, and yes I read historical fiction too from authors who studied the time period they wrote for 5-10yrs before they wrote said books. I'm in my late 30s so Its not like I'm talking about books from before there was power! I think the rise of self publishing is to blame. Not because all self published books are bad, I have an entire shelf of them I love; but just because you can publish a book doesn't mean you should. It would be like me picking up a guitar tomorrow and telling everyone I'm a musician because I learned 3 chords... could I get better with practice? Most likely...will that make me good enough to be a musician....probably not.
