George Garrigues Hi, Brad. I don't think your advice works with the opening chapters, the references to the English and French ruling houses and the coach ride. If the reader is helped along somewhat with helpful hints so as to understand exactly how Dickens is writing, the rest of the book might go better.

This style is probably entirely new for many readers.

Still (backtracking now), the first time I read this book, more than fifty years ago, I didn't have any help, and I got to the end thoroughly satisfied!
