Agreed. She seems to fly over quite a few heads for lack of a better idiom or expression. She's not to be read just at the surface, but with an alert eye and mind to her double meanings and incredible depth. She has an uncanny understanding and insight into human nature and psyche.
Seriously? If the author is one of the top 20 most influential people or not doesn't matter in whether a book is liked or not! That's kind of like saying "oh she is popular so I must like her too!" I enjoyed the story, but was glad when it was over...and yes, she did a great job of investigating and drawing many themes into the story. Perhaps that was one of the things that I didn't like!
Oh, goash. Who cares if she's actually the next incarnation of Confucius? This particular reader did not like the book. And it's all right: we can't all like every single book we meet, now can we? So, all the references to the alleged authority of the author (whatever that has to do with her book) are not relevant. She can be literally anyone and still write badly or just in a partially (or fully!) unappealing way. And that's it.
