Natasha I just started Exit West and Pachinko is already on my nightstand waiting its turn. I was surprised by the mystic tone of the book, but it is a little like ancient literature in this way. I think it adds to the journey into another culture. I say all of this as someone that loved The Tiger's Wife (also about growing up in a war zone) and The Elephant's Journey.

Nancy Pachinko's quite different - more about oppression and cultural identity. The Tiger's Wife is one of my favorite books, but it too is different, more about actually living in a unstable region. I really didn't like Exit West as a book, but it approaches immigration and the current refugee situation in different countries in a refreshing way, I like that it gives refugees and country "natives" somewhat of a voice and breaks some stereotypes.
