JD Amen to that!!

message 2: by Eric (new)

Eric No, you're wrong. He's NOT holed up somewhere pouring over his life's work to make it perfect. Book 3 was already written before the 1st was released. He put book 3 on the back burner and is perpetually "editing" it while he pursues other projects he finds more interesting/profitable, like the video game project he got because of his newfound success. Leaving us out to dry is betrayal of his fans that got him where he is

message 3: by Kevin (new)

Kevin He should feel no need to release the book before he's ready but neither will I wait forever. I gave up long ago on GRRM and while that's largely due to a terribly disappointing last two books any authors mastery will only last so long. Rothfuss' masterpiece is a hefty weight to dangle on heart strings too long. Eventually fans will cut the stings and force themselves to move on to other adventures.

message 4: by Randy (new)

Randy It takes as long as it takes. It's art. We get it. Of course Rothfuss isnt anyone's bitch. No duh. Regardless, none of us are expecting The Doors of Stone to rival War and Peace for greatest story ever imagined and written either. 5 damn years for a third installment of what is a, very good, but still fairly straightforward fantasy story is approaching the absurd for an established author of Rothfuss' caliber. GRRM's series is totally different being another two or three orders of magnitude more complicated than TKC. I love Rothfuss in all his geekdom, and his first novel was superb. The Wise Man' Fear less so, but still good. 5 years for this last book - for a story that was said to be planned out from the beginning already - that implies lots of editing and rewrites - problems that I pray dotn foretell another rachet down in story quality. I hope for the best always. But it sure is damn frustrating for fans of his work, no doubt.

message 5: by Joie (new)

Joie Do you still think that? A year later?

message 6: by Randy (new)

Randy I think we wont see The Doors of Stone in 2016. Maybe 2017 if we're lucky. Rothfuss is not focused on writing novels at this point, much to many of his fans disappointment.

message 7: by Randy (new)

Randy http://fantasyhotlist.blogspot.com/20.... If THIS report is true, and his editor hasnt even read the first word yet then we most certainly will NOT see DoS out in 2016, considering that the prior books tooks several back and forth revisions between editors and Rothfuss to get the book finalized. (According to past acknowledgements from Rothfuss on that.) Now I am skeptical that his is true - but I seee little reason at all for fans of his (only two) novels to be highly expectant of a release of the final trilogy novel this year. Like it or not, we are in the age of GRRM and his influence, and sadly one big influence seems to be "shut up fans, you cant rush art" and books take 6 or more years to write. Oh well. We'll get it, when we get it, meanwhile Rothfuss's star fades a little as the rest of the world continues to move on. SO many other good books to read, SO many other awesome authors.

message 8: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi Irvin If you're going to complain that Patrick Rothfuss is taking too long, YOU try writing a 1000 page story! I want the book to come out soon too, but if it comes out as good as his previous books, it's worth the wait. At least he released A Slow Regard of Silent Things, to keep his fans at least a little satisfied. Authors have been doing this for a long time now, before Game of Thrones.

message 9: by Randy (new)

Randy I am Rothfuss biggest fan. I read a bit of one of his two awesome, incomparable books every night before I go to sleep to comfort, inspire and encourage me. I hope Rothfuss lives to be 110 years old, and spends the entirety of the rest of his life and waking hours doing nothing but editing, revising, polishing and reviewing Book 3, whereupon, as his last act on this fair green earth, he can publish it and then pass away into eternity knowing he did not release a sentence, nay, even a word from the Book until it was final. Anything less would be forsaking the beauty and craft of his prose, which us readers would never ever forgive him for. 5 years between books?! Lame. Try 60 years! I would not be pleased with anything less than a multi-decade span between books - it's what all the great novelists do

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane Helton-sincoff He is my bitch when I spend my money to buy his product.. If he doesn't intend to publish a third book he should be up front so no one else wastes their money and reads the first two.

message 11: by T.A. (new)

T.A. Uner You guys need to check out my Leopard King Saga. It'll tide you over until you get your KingKiller fix satisfied. Not trying to spam. Just trying to turn people on to new things. All books only 99 cents till Jan 1st. At that price, I'm practically giving them all away. https://www.goodreads.com/series/1186...

message 12: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Jean Hmmmmmmm. I have to wonder if you still feel that way two years later. I actually no longer give a damn and will probably not read or buy the third book (which was written before the 1st book was published). I bought the first two books based on his claim that there would be a third. Had I know he wasn't going to put it out in a reasonable amount of time, I wouldn't have spent my money on the first two. I see it as "false advertisement".

message 13: by Joe (new)

Joe D'ambrosio haha this comment was made 2 years ago and theres still no end in sight

message 14: by Joie (new)

Joie Pretty much

message 15: by JD (new)

JD Life happens, circumstances change and Trumps become presidents... I would rather he take all the time he needs in order to deliver the same- if not better- level of magnifepicawestacular flavoring he's given us with the previous two books. Three... almost forgot about Regard.

message 16: by Joie (new)

Joie I'm pushing my expectations to 2018 so that IF it comes out in 2017, I'll be ridiculously happily surprised :)

message 17: by Marco (new)

Marco Cano If a builder was building your home and he lept pushing the move-in date back, would you say the same? "The builder is not your bitch, I would rather he do my home right than to have it on time" Would you say the same after waiting for your home 4 years. 5? 6?

message 18: by Joie (new)

Joie Alright, so I said that I was hoping for 2018, but I’ll push my expectations another year for the same reasons...

message 19: by Remon (new)

Remon Dodemont Still feel that way?

message 20: by Devin (new)

Devin Warren Maybe because i'm in the military i'm used to being forced to wait on something i shouldn't have to wait forever for.

message 21: by Randy (new)

Randy I firmly believe that there will be no Doors of Stone release from Rothfuss while Trump is president. His presidency only appears to amplify the tides of despair that seem to routinely buffet our beloved author. Very sad. So if Trump somehow miraculously wins a 2nd term, we cannot look forward to a book until at least 2025. Good grief.....

message 22: by Joie (new)

Joie My fifth post in four years since this comment was posted: still no release date in sight.

message 23: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Abboud Hello past u ... its 4 years later ... do u still have the same opinion .. i wonder

message 24: by Dennis (new)

Dennis Piss off troll.

message 25: by Joie (new)

Joie I love that I’m part of an ongoing 4-year-old thread. Can’t wait for the next comment (which will no doubt come before the next book lol)

message 26: by Helge (new)

Helge K It is rather enjoyable 😉

message 27: by Donna (new)

Donna June 2019 - no longer waiting for the book and won't read it unless it is in the library and nothing else is on my list. I am just amused at this point when I get notified of someone liking my post that was put up years ago.

message 28: by Ron (new)

Ron After another four years perhaps it is you who should consider not being Patrick Rothfuss's bitch.

message 29: by Marco (new)

Marco Cano Perspective is a wonderful thing. Since The Name of the Wind was published:

Patrick Rothfuss has written 3 books. 650,000 words. (Approx)
Brandon Sanderson has written 17 books. 3,824,000 words (Approx)

6 to 1. (Approx)

Excluding novellas, which BS has more, and excluding Alcatraz which would make this even worse

message 30: by Randy (new)

Randy Sept 2019. 3,118 days since release of TWMF. Doors of Stone? Gigantic Y-A-W-N. At this point does anyone really care? I dont.

message 31: by Joie (new)

Joie 5 months and 16 days until the 9-year anniversary of waiting for Doors of Stone 🎉😭🎉

message 32: by Joie (new)

Joie WAIT YOU GUYS THERE’S A RELEASE DATE!! AUGUST 20 OF 2020

message 33: by Marouane (new)

Marouane J has it been confirmed by him ? i don't think so
November 2019

message 34: by Ron (new)

Ron Calling BS. As ever, the fans remain Patrick's bitch.

message 35: by Kate (new)

Kate McCormick It's not an official release date. Amazon occasional puts release dates up that do not mean anything. Do NOT get your hopes up. This has happened before. At one point Amazon said the release date would be in 2014. This book series is never going to be finished. No biggie, life will go on, but I am disappointed.

message 36: by Joie (new)

Joie I’m sad, but not surprised

message 37: by Jose (new)

Jose And that was five years ago...
