I am reading your book now. Last week I finished Once we were brothers by Ronald H. Balson. Excellent book.
FYI - City of Thieves is purely fiction, it is not his grandfathers story! http://nymag.com/arts/books/features/...
I loved Once we were brothers too Lori! I read most of the ones you listed above....I really was not impressed by The Book Thief! Did not like the writing style at all...surprised so popular! I am going to read City of Thieves or The Invisible Bridge next, never heard of them. I'm assuming you all have read The Nightingale? And I really liked Beneath A Scarlet Sky...true story, and The Lost Wife, and From Sand and Ash.
My favorite book about WWII is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
I also like TITO and the Rise and Fall of Yugoslavia by Richard West
The Diary of Anne Frank (my first important book as a girl), The Nightingale, All the Light We Cannot See, The Alice Network, City of Thieves, The Huntress, etc.
Mark Sullivan's Beneath a Scarlet Sky is one of my favorites! I'm going to Italy on a Jewish heritage tour in about a month. I've also read Eternal and just finished One Good Thing. I plan to read your first book as well:-). What other historical fiction set in Italy during WWII would you recommend? Thanks!
