This, "but I'm not really familiar with the time period, so I don't know that I'd ever write in it" is one of the things I love most about your writing. The historical details and the way they are incorporated into the lives of your characters. You clearly do take your research seriously. I for one am grateful you incorporate you previous occupation into your stories. At this point, I buy whatever you publish, but I'm intrigued by the idea of YA 80's series as I grew up in that decade. I recently enjoyed 80's nostalgia by reading Rainbow Rowell's "Eleanor & Park". Have you read it? John Hughes-esque without the kamp.
I'd enjoy stories you write set in any decade, but the 20s and 80s would both be a lot of fun, for very different reasons. The 20s were especially a decadent and tumultuous time, so I could see your flair of fantasy and Science Fiction mixing in well.
