"Technically she never did say no" -- consent is should be "enthusiastic" (see https://www.rainn.org/articles/what-i...), and the absence of a verbal "no" should never be assumed to be consent.
I agree, whole heartedly with the article attached, technicalities should not prevail. I just know in my district they would have my head if I recommended the book.
:) I think it's a little mature for 8th graders, too.
