I don't know about that, Nancy. I'm a 65 yr old female, and I loved the book from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
Hi Nancy, As a 55 year old male, I loved the story. I gave a copy to a 60 year old friend and he couldn't stand it but his 48 year old wife picked it up and couldn't put it down. One of my 22 year old daughters read it and loved it. My wife hated it. I think if you are intrigued with the first page of this book, you'll probably like it but if not, then stop reading it. What I found most interesting was falling in love with Mumbai but there were many parts that captivated me. I thought it was a really good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's also, as evident by the differing views posted here and elsewhere, a book that readers have an opinion about! Love that! Thanks for posting.
@ Nancy, I am sixty-four and loving this book. Even though I have something in common with the writer, having had a heroin addiction that enslaved me for decades, I would not want to spend time with most of the characters in the book. I had to deal with some shady characters in my past, but these would be too much for me. Thinking of a straight person's reaction to them seems a frightenening thing. I do love the writing in this book and have been reading it slowly and savoring it.
I'm 64 and liked it quite a bit. However....I've worked in India frequently between 1989-2008, so I related to a lot of the people, places and things in the book.
