It's easier for me to recommend a book to teens if the series has books 2 and 3 ready to read. They age out or enter college with no spare time to look up book 2 of a series they started 4 years ago. Just a consideration about publishing in a timely manner of that genre for YA.
I hear that. I hate waiting for sequels too. Especially if it's more than a year. I wish it was a matter of writing fast. Being at the mercy of a publisher is frustrating. Maybe in 10 years when all my books are published I can start building a fan base. ;)
