Camden Tellkamp It is not us author's job to purely entertain you. Our job is to make a good, worthwhile book. It took me a year to write my first book, and that was just over 300 pages. Before editing. If Patrick Rothfuss is writing the book in this 5 year span then I can hardly blame him for taking this long. It would probably take me 2 years of hard work to push out a 1000+ page book. Then many years to go through it with a fine-tooth comb to fix all the burrs. We are making our money from readers but we can't push out a book every nine months. Books aren't babies. They take work. I am upset at the wait too. I truely am. I ACHE to read Doors of Stone, physically ache. But he needs to get it right. Just as I need to get my books right. Also, first-class? Being an author isn't like being a millionaire. You don't get the full value of the book from every sale, so don't expect to have a book whenever the whims takes you.

Camden Tellkamp About the baby analogy, I mean books take a lot more work to make. To make a baby you have to experience a lot of pleasure, then wait nine months, then feel a lot of discomfort. Then bang, it has been made. A book is pleasure in the writing. Then many many many many many months of pain/editing. Then bang, a book.

William Smithwick Camden, I am not sure about this, I have only raised one kid to adult-hood with two about halfway. And I have not birthed any. I would venture a guess that "you have to experience a lot of pleasure, then wait nine months" is a bit of oversimplification. I just read your response to my wife. She first laughed, then tried to find you on the internet, then laughed again. Here is some free advice: if you ever decide to have children, don't describe childbirth in this way to the mother of your children. You are welcome.

Second, having a child and raising them and loving them and being fearful for them in this world is nothing like writing a book. Don't try to compare the two. You come off looking obtuse and rather ignorant. Seriously man, you need to get out more.
