Quiltyknitwit Maybe not nasty, just confused and perhaps having dementia?

Steph dorothy definitely has dementia - not only the memory lapses but also the incessant folding of cloth - that's a common behavior.

Deb agreed and want to believe Dot Forbes had dementia and didn't realize the fire and peoples lives were connected. But what of the clue of the folded tea towels in the Bishop house? The girls went in for lemonade and mention made of the tea towels folded, and another time as well. Does it simply mean Dot was a visitor as was Mrs. Cleary?
