Juliet In fact the very first version of my novel was set in an imaginary world, not Ireland. It grew its Irish setting with various rewrites. :)

Laura Juliet, I love hearing about your inspiration! Thanks for answering these questions. I'm also reminded of Andrew Lang's Fairy Books (I used to read my mom's "red" version), as those have various tellings of Grimm fairy tales. I'm about halfway through all your books and have more to go, and I'm loving figuring out what other fairy tales inspired your work. So far I'm reminded of "The Nettle Spinner" from Lang's book and seen how that ties into DotF. I was also so surprised to complete Heart's Blood and not even catch the reference to another famous fairy tale! (Don't want to spoil it for anyone reading this by naming it.) Your characters feel so alive and defy comparison to their inspiration. Anyways, keep up the great work.
